312-8 new purchase but now an issue

Check and make sure the gas cap is vented

Don't drill a hole in it. It already has a vent hole in it somewhere. Find the hole and clean it if it is clogged.

Good news!  After all this diag and assuming the new pump was bad.....it's not!  It was out of gas.  I had enough gas in it for the initial tune then it died.  The electric pump had locked up but somehow between the time I realized the electric pump was bad and the month later until I installed the new mech pump it ran out of gas.  Not sure if it was a coincidence but regardless the new pump works fine and she purrs now.  Thank God!  New question.....I'll post a new topic

There isn't one of us who has not been fooled by something like this. You have a breakdown, work like the devil to solve and then find it is something so simple that you walk around for days scratching your head in wonder.

I always believed it was fuel related. Glad everything worked out for you.
