Kenda Tires

Anybody tried Kenda tires? I am in need of the 16 by 7.50 by 8 for my 520H front tires. I see Carlisle does not make the R/S in the 7.50 size. I like the Dico tires that are on the tractor, but they are pretty worn and one has a crack in the sidewall and leaking air. Kenda has a K500 Super Turf R/S in the 16X7.50-8. Look's like the best option over using a smaller tire. Just wondering if anyone has any input on these.

I have heard they are good. I am looking at a set of K502's for the rear.

Don't know first hand, but I've heard their diameters can run small.

Another option is to use 6.50 wide tires vs the 7.50's.

I have a set on my tractor. I really like them. They used them on the Xi line for the last few years they made them.

Thanks, guys!! I think I will order a pair for the front. I looked the rears over and they seem to be in pretty good shape. The tractor is a '92 with about 850 hrs. I definitely want to stick with an R/S tire and prefer the wider footprint.

I have Titan 16x7.50-8 tires on my 518xi, and Kenda 16x7.50-8 on my 520xi. The Kenda's are larger by close to an inch in diameter and a wider tread as well.

Thanks for the pics! Are you finding that the Kenda tires are easy on your grass? They are supposed to be round shouldered and easier on turf in the turns. That is what I am hoping for. The tread also look's like it might be better for steering in the snow during snow removal. Hoping for that, too.

I also have Kenda's on my 520xi.  They are 4 ply (v. the typical 2 ply) construction.  I bought them through Jacks Small Engine. Lots of tread, more than the DIco or Titan OEM styles.  For the front tires, make sure you get the rounded shoulder style (RS suffix as I recall).  I have no problems with them cutting up the lawn.

Thanks, Don!! I did order the R/S version. Sounds like they will be just fine for all seasons. Mine should arrive tomorrow from Lawnmower Tires in Iowa.

Had a chance to get to those Kenda tires today. I had Walmart mount them for me. That was a treat not to have to be breaking beads and stretching tires on and off tiny wheels. I was pleased to see roller bearings when I took off the wheels. I thought they might be bushed and it was nice to see real bearings. So I cleaned and repacked those right away. The Kenda's were a bit scrunched up when I received them, but the air quickly puffed them out to their normal shape. They look real nice and have the wide footprint I had with the old Dico tires and the nice round shoulders. Should be a great set of tires. I forgot to get a pic of the old Dico's, but here are some of the Kenda'a. And you can drool a little over that nice Honda GX630, too!!

Yes, it needs a bath for sure! Mostly it's dusty from the sawdust and sanding dust from the woody boat I'm building.

Thanks, guys! Yup! The 520H has been a very good investment. I feel kinda bad about the Onan motor, though. When running right it was a very good motor. I just got tired of the valve issue. I fixed one cylinder, then the other a few years later. When it happened the third time, that was enough for me. The Honda motor has been very good, though. Breathed new life into this tractor.

 

The boat is a Glen L Torpedo. This is the last design Glen did before retiring (age 92). There were some issues with the patterns and the plans were pulled from their lineup. I re-lofted the design and made numerous corrections while in progress in the building. It is a 19' 3" inboard runabout reminiscent of the older Ventnors. The hull has been planked using the "cold molded" epoxy/double diagonal plywood method. Many boats are now built this way and are planked with 1/8" Mahogany to simulate the Chris Craft style planking. This boat hull will be fiberglass coated and painted, but the deck will be a classic woody style. The lines of the boat lend better to painting rather than planking the hull. It will be powered by a 300 hp Mercruiser inboard motor. This may be a one of a kind boat as no one else is building one nor is there one already built.

 

My Hubby thinks I'm crazy for all the building I have done (planes and boats) but he loves me and all my idiosyncrasies.
