Cart/Trolley Build

Recommended Posts

Charlie Smith

Morning Everyone,

A few months back I brought this cart/trolley off a friend who had only used it as a table in his shed for years and not for it's real purpose, he had nailed a divan bed base to the floor to make it a little longer, when I caught eyes on it, i popped the question and asked how much would he let it go for... After a bit of thinking and discussion, we settled on a price and so be it I was then leaving and going home with this cart.

So far all I've managed to do is sort out the hitch so it can be pulled behind the horse or cubcadet, and cut the floor, weld four corners in, and the tailgate latches, I now need to buy done nice wood for the front sides and back, make the tailboard up with the hinges, buy two new tyres as they are odd, and then paint, paint, paint, although I haven't quite settled on a colour yet... The wood will be stained, but I'm not sure of what colours to paint the frame,

Yes... My welding isn't none to good, but it holds and once it's painted it should look alright....

This is the cart in the sorry state I purchased it in, post-9595-0-10872100-1395407138_thumb.jp post-9595-0-34515700-1395407151_thumb.jp

Hey Charlie, nice build :greetings-clappingyellow: . Looks like a strong undercarriage and certainly beats mine  :handgestures-thumbup:

Nice build quality Charlie  I think in WH terms with two axles it would be a 'wagon'.

Re colour, obviously its a case of each to his own. My personal preference is not to paint everything that's not actually WH in origin red. So my Agrifab cultivator stayed black and my spray boom (origin unknown) is yellow, a Westwood trailer stayed orange.

I just think it looks more like the real world of big tractors where attachments aren't always by the manufacturer of the tractor.

Just my :twocents-02cents:

Great little cart Charlie , welds look Cushty to me .

I agree with Andy , painting doesnt have to be uniform with the tractor , i have a small cart that is paint Mid Brunswick Green , ithink any of the vintage colours would look great with your cart.

If it were me i would just  clear varnish the wood sides rather that stain the wood , or i would paint the wood in a contrasting vintage colour , say steel frame in black  & the wood sides in green with maybe black or red wheel rims . & then get it sign written ,

But  obviously you choose what you would like

Or you could even do a similar sort of thing as this sort of cart

Nice work Charlie, that's going to be a very handy trailer to have when it's finished...

I see your using one of the "old fashioned" hand held welding masks....  Welding is much more of a pleasure and easier with a self darkening mask... Being able to use both hands for welding rather than one holding the mask up is a big bonus as well..

Thank you everybody, over the last week we have now built a solid frame, also with a removeable tailgate, it's also since then been painted and the floor been put back in, ready for the sides to be painted and added in ASAP. I decided to go red, ;)... Ahaha! Here's the pictures!

Thankyou, and I know, hmmm.. Well at least I sprayed it in the same place as the cubcadet, so I just made a colour change it went from yellow to red ;) and I'm not too sure on the wheels yet,

Trailer starting to look tip top now, please note... Although the sides look nice grey, that's just an undercoat base layer to seal the wood, that will be painted a different colour,
