Jrblanke 840 #1 Posted February 11, 2014 I picked up some chrome wheel covers this past weekend that came off of a 92 520. They do not have any dents but have some light rust and I would like to know the best way to remove the rust without damaging the chrome. The second question, is how do I keep the rust from coming back? Should I paint the wheel cover with clear coat? I am worried that it will yellow over time. wallfish 15,918 #7 Posted February 11, 2014 Aluminum foil to clean them and wax to keep them. Do a youtube search for using foil to clean chrome. I was surprised how well it works and it works without leaving scratch marks. here's one video but I just use water. To my suprise, after about 4 minutes, I had this result: I have to spend some more time on them, but it was cool to see such quick results. Wheel-N-It 2,967 #12 Posted February 11, 2014 James, the name of the rust remover you asked me about is EVAPO-RUST. You can buy it at Advance Auto. Its Bio Degradeable and you can reuse it. papaglide 541 #13 Posted February 12, 2014 I used coke and aluminum foil on the muffler guard on my 417-A. It cleaned up the rust awesome BUT left tints of color similar to oil laying on water on it. In fact, I made this fun little picture to send to some people here at the office using my avatar picture. I use that all the time..... Once I have something to my likings, I put about 3 coats on it.... Amazing finish if you take your time and keep all the dust out or away from the area......
