Hi my name is Chris and I purchased my first Wheel Horse two weeks ago. I have what I think is a 1974 WH A90 Special. This is a project for my self and my five year old son. My plan is to tear the horse down rebuild the B&S 8HP motor and getting everything back in working order. I currently have the tractor down to the frame and just need to take the tranny out. Motor runs but smokes, also I think I have issues with the tranny. When I spin one wheel while lifted the other wheels spins in the same direction.

I have been reading post after post and it is amazing the help that everyone on this forum provides. Cant want to get my Horse back together again.

Thanks ahead of time for all the help I know I will receive.

Chris

Your tranny is doing what it should, one wheel spins one way and the other the opposite when jacked up.

Mike, I thought he said in the same direction for both wheels...or maybe he's mistaken??

Thanks to all for the welcome. Mike and Terry, when the wheels are off the ground and I spin one side the opposite side spins the same direction. I think they should spin in different directions, but thats just from what I am learning here. From what I can tell I don't think the transmission has been open before, but do not know for sure. The person I bought it from was just using it to move trucks around, so pulling and going in a straight line was ok for him. The other thing I noticed was that on each of the wheels instead of being flush with rim, the axel stuck out about 3/4's of an each. Thats on both sides. I am going to post this issue on the tranny portion of the forum, but any help that can be provided her would be great.

Richie, were are you located? Also do you go to the Fly Wheelers show? Cant wait for this months show, now that I have parts to look for. The Fly Wheelers are what has sparked by interest in tractors and this forum is what made me interested in WH's.

Welcome to RS! Use to reside in Zephyrhills, then Tampa, some years back.... Does the opposite wheel spin at the same speed you are turning the wheel at or does it turn slightly slower?

Rob I think they are spinning at the same speed. Not positive.

Just bought this A-90. Not sure why! Now I'm wondering what I should do with it. Fix it up? Part it out? Keep it along with my 310? The fella I got it from says he parked it running 8-10 years ago. It's been sitting behind his barn all these years. The motor is not locked. Opinions?
