Project for my 518, KWIK WAY LOADER

Recommended Posts

First of all I am putting this on my 520 re-power with a Kohler m18. So I call it a 518.

I will start off with a few hints.

I have been wanting to do this for many years and finally got started on it this weekend. Hear is what I am starting off with.

I have been collecting parts for this for years and have not had the time to start it. Well I got knocked down to 40 hours at work for a while and Tom is doing well on his own on the hitches, So I felt its time to get started with it. Here is the loader I am installing.

Its a little too large for a wheel horse, but I will cut it down a little and make it fit my needs.

The sub-frame will mount to the front tac-a-matic and the bottom of the rear axle.My hitch will mount above and hold the back of the frame.

The loader came with a chain driven pump, I plan on changing it to a belt drive.

Scott,

What was that Kwikway you have on before you got hold of it?

Scott,

I wish I new. We were thinking a Cub low boy.  I bought it from Tom in Wisconsin several years ago. It has a bucket leveling system on it. Also it is a foot longer on the mast then a WH kwik way loader. That is not a problem to cut down to fit my 518 tractor. A pic of the leveling system for the bucket.

As the loader goes up, the bucket stays at the same level. It would be great for a set of forks on the front.  I am debating on keeping this. Before I remove it, I will try it out. I don't think I will get enough curl on the bucket to hold a load.

Well I got some time today to work on the loader project. I was able to get Toms skid steer started to dig out the loader that was frozen to the ground. Darn diesels do not like to start when it's this cold. Hear is the loader in the shop

jymu8y7u.jpg

ga5aqagy.jpg

Next was to start taking it apart and cutting it in half. I need to remove the center section so the hood can open

3avy8umu.jpg

Cylinders are off and the two short ones will only move in and out about 3". Don't know why, so I will do some investigating on them in my nice warm work shop at home.

zatyqase.jpg

8are2u6y.jpg

After every thing was disassembled, I started to mock things up to see how things were going to fit

ga2areve.jpg

aje6uja9.jpg

5anyje3y.jpg

Finished up the front bracket for the support arms

agu8e4u5.jpg

dytuve3a.jpg

Nothing is mounted permeant yet, just clamped and bolted. I need to shorten up the arms and make pockets for the loader to fit into. The list goes on and on, but I'm getting there.

I am torn between buying an old

wore out loader for my C 121 or

just starting from scratch. Any

thoughts from you loader guys?

My fab skills are decent, so that

would not be a major hurdle.

Having a loader sized just for my

tractor does have a certain appeal.

I have thought about this more times then I want to talk about. I already have a loader, but it;s not the correct size for my tractor. So I could sell it and build my own, or use the loader and cut it down to fit. In the processes I go through rebuilding all the things that are worn out. This is the way I am going.  But if I didn't have this loader, I would build my own to the size I want it to be. It all comes down to the size of the piggy bank you have.
