Brush Painting Question

Recommended Posts

Chris...excellent pictures...thanks.  Your snow blade looks great... :)

Here are the pictures that I have at the moment.  As you can see, this attachment is in really rough shape.  I ended up just using a wire wheel on my 4" grinder (went through 1 of them), I wiped it down with Mineral Spirits and then sprayed on Rust-Oleum red primer (used 1 can)...then I brush painted with a good 2" brush using Rust-Oleum Regal Red thinned with Mineral spirits  (1 cup paint to 1/4" cup spirits)..  The paint covered great and flowed better then I expected.  One issue I had...the temperature outside dropped as soon as I was ready to paint.  I ended up painting in the 40 degree "F" zone.  Being a snow blade, and the fact that I am running out of nice weather, I went for it.  I like the brush method for this application...it looks real good for what I had to work with...I got great coverage with no waste and over spray...and for about $9 for a quart of paint...a very economical out come.  I could wet sand this in the spring, and give it a couple of more coats, and have a much better looking result.

Have to let it dry (2 days) and put it back together.  I'll put pictures of it together in a couple of days.  Thank You all for sharing your pictures and knowledge.

On a side note...I took the springs, after they were in electrolysis...wire brushed them with the 4" grinder put them on the charcoal grill for about 20 minutes (to dry them out), and then soaked them in a penetrating oil solution that I made of 3 parts ATF, 1 part paint thinner (for oil based paint), and 1 part diesel fuel for about 3 days.  Looking for the penetrating oil to soak into the metal...they look great, we will see if it will last through the winter.

Here is a video of watching paint dry...could not resist doing this...click on the picture. :)

That's freaking Hysterical! :laughing-rolling:  NO SOCKS!!!!! :bow-blue:  With your luck you will either get no snow and never get to use it or get a blizzard before it's dry!  :teasing-poke:  How about some more video's, "Steve making his football pics"," Steve making wine" " Steve Joins an Encounter Group" Ect. Ect. Maybe an ultimate video, Steve At The Big Show!! You could interview guests, have a discussion forum, You and Bob do a Trans clinic. I can be in the background walking back and forth hauling parts!  :laughing-rolling:  :ROTF:

I watched the video again. I think "The Barking Spider" was the stool sliding on the floor. Only the Dino knows!  :notworthy:  :ROTF:

Lars...actually, I enjoyed watching that paint dry so much...I gave it a 2nd and then a 3rd coat. :)   I now consider myself a "watching paint dry professional". :bow-blue:   Anyway, the paint is now dry.  Yesterday I cut and drilled the new scraper edge and I am painting that.  I should be able to put the whole thing back together today.  I will post a finished picture.  The blade really came a long way in looking good after the 3rd coat. :eusa-think:  Here are the pictures of the blade.  This is a WH # 6-4114.
