Was given a C-175 wheel horse

Since it sat 6 years, I would almost bet it is a carb issue but as Jeff stated above, it can be any number of other things since it did sit. Old gasoline in the lines and in the carb will leave a deposit or sticky film over time plus it could have broke down the rubber in the fuel lines or it could be crap in the gas tank. Nothing that sits that long is really going to perform 100% upon firing backup again. You may also want to change out the spark plugs if you haven't already. Is the air filter plugged?

Start simple and work your way forward. Things like the fuel filter. Was it changed? What does the tank look like. Is there gunk around the bottom where the valve sits? If you disconnect the line from the pressure side of the fuel pump, does it squirt out quite a bit or does it barely have a flow when you crank the motor over?

If the answers to these questions are all positive, then you most likely need to look at that carb.
