C-175 Kohler engine battery charging

Recommended Posts

AETD

Hello,

I I have a c175 with a kohler engine.

My battery is not charging when the engine is running...

One 'expert' is telling me it should charge when the engine is running...

Another 'expert' is telling me not all enginesz have a charging system...

How are these engines charging?

thanks

Not in any way an expert, but if electric/battery ignition, there is a stator winding under flywheel that induces a charge current back to battery. If you have a working amp meter on your dash tower it should show a + needle deflection (maybe jumpy). You might find a good wiring diagram in manuals section for that particular stallion. Off hand don't know if has a fuse in circuit, but would suggest give a look see at diagram to be sure.

This may be same as yours   does show a fuse (25a) in charge circuit.

If you have the original Kohler KT-17 twin cylinder engine in your machine, you DO have a charging system.

Do you own a multimeter and know how to use it?

What the heck does that mean?  Is that supposed to be a link to a picture?  It doesn't do anything, tries to load something, then freezes.

Are you in Belgium?

Picture works on this end...

What is shown is the voltage regulator for a kt17 and it is disconnected.

It's working here now also...  originally all I got was a string of numbers.

Yes, voltage regulator / rectifier.

In addition to being disconnected, terminals appear to have some corrosion.  Try to carefully clean out the terminals inside the plug with some contact cleaner before connecting to new regulator.

Thanks for the tip,

Did clean them with contact spray.

Works like it should.

The old battery is not holding more than 9V after a night of charging. so have to replace that.

At least i know the new battery wil be charged 'onboard' while mowing.

Thanks for the help

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks

or is the plow frame different?

      Hi All,

I have what I believe is a Commando 800 but would like to confirm model and year.  Tag reads Model # 1 0100 6; Serial # 790336. Have had it for years (bought from original owner) and want to clean it up some.

      Thanks!
