v-belt for deck

Recommended Posts

newbie1958

I have put on a new v-belt, old one was slipping and cracked. I have adjusted the engage cable all the way and I can't get the right distance on the engage spring. I can tell the belt is to loose and slips easily. any ideas would be appreciated...this is my first Toro and first riding mower...model 71185 13-38 XL

OK, 2 questions...

Did you use an OEM belt?

Are you sure they gave you the correct one? (Same size as the old one)

Yes. I got the Toro belt and it was maybe an 1/8" shorter than old one.

I'm not real familiar with the xi series, sorry. If it has a double pulley on the engine, make sure it is on the larger one. Also check the belt routing decal or owner's manual to be sure that is correct.

Everything looks lined up..has anyone heard of the engage springs wearing out or the engage cable stretching?

What was the problem (if any) before you replaced the belt? B)

The same thing. I noticed the belt was worn some and cracked, So I thought it was probably just stretched. It did need replacing, but I noticed the new one was only maybe an 1/8" smaller. Thank you

I doubt it would be a spring.

But cables certainly do stretch and I think I have read about this happening on a non-WH tractor.

I am not familiar with this belt/clutch so I can't say more without pictures.

Maybe there is a stick or other debris preventing full travel of the mechanism?
