310-8 Brake Adjustment

Recommended Posts

510racer

I have a hand me down 1988 310-8 that I finally got to start and run.  Now I need to get it to stop.

Pushing the pedal all the way does nothing to slow it.

I may also have the bent foot rest problem.

What is the proper way to adjust the brake?  It appeared to have an adjusting nut on the pushrod.

Or might it be another problem?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks!

These manuals are for older models but the principal is the same.

Check the brake band to make sure there is still a lining in there. There should be a rod with a 3/8 nut (9/16 hex) on it that pulls on the brake band to tighten against the drum. You may just need to tighten it up a bit.

If it is covered in grease or gear oil, you may want to remove the band completely and soak it to get it clean.

I adjusted the band as far as it will go.  However, upon closer inspection there does not appear to be a lining.

I have access to a parts machine so we'll see.

Has anyone had experiance with having the lining replaced?

There's a local shop that does truck brakes and clutch work.
