New member in Spain - wheel horse 702

Recommended Posts

COCOPOT

Hi everyone!

Mi name is Fito from Valencia, Spain. Last week I found this old wheel horse 702 in a town close to me and I couldn´t keep me away from buying it. After 20 year without use, I plugged a new battery, revised oil level, filled the gas tank and it started in two minutes!

It is in very good conditions with all the original parts and no modifications, all users manuals very well conserved. Originally bought in 1966 here in Spain. I am in love with it, also with the girl driving it!

Nice to find other proud owners in Europe!

Thank you all for your kind welcome messages!

I have to say sorry for my english...

This afternoon I will try to find some parts to start basic tuning:

- Air filter

- New oil

- Sparking plug

- V Belts

- gas pipe replacement

- electric wiring

- I´ve noticed that gas tank has a little leak that must be repaired

- The exhaust pipe is broken (see picture) this will be hard to find here in Spain...

- There is no V belt in hydraulic unit, must find one (does anyone know de dimensions or reference of this V belt?

- Now it´s only running with closed choke, every time I slowly try to open it, the motor stops. Also with closed choke, the motor stops in about one minute. Carburetor adjustment is necessary (is there any tutorial out there on how to do it?)

I will keep uploading photos with advances, it´s really nice to find this forum!

Fito,

Hi again Fito, I have obtained Parts and Service Manuals etc for you. I you send me a PM with your E-mail, I will forward them on to you. They are PDF Files.

EDIT.......Probably easier for you to download them from the Manuals section here, but I have one for your engine.

Hi,

Thank you for your welcome messages!

I was very busy last weeks and I didn´t have time to answer before, I am sorry.

Returning to the 702, I´ve been doing some work:

The good things:

New air filter

New V belts

New motor oil

New batteries

Tires repaired

New sparking plug

New gas pipe

Gas tank leak repaired

Hydraulic unit leak repaired, new belt and working!

The bad news:

As the problem with carburetor persist, I brought it to a mechanic to clean it. He told me that I need a new one because there is "looseness" inside. =( so it seems that it´s necessary to change the carburetor, and I don´t know how to find one here in Spain. Do you know where to find parts that be able to send it to Spain? I will appreciate any help here =)

The problem:
Motor is only running with closed choke, every time I slowly try to open it, the motor stops. Also with closed choke, the motor stops in about one minute. It´s like there is no suction force to aspire the gas. Do you think that carburetor replacement is the solution?

thank you!

Welcome!!

I like the look of those headlights! Whats written on the front axle?

Mike...........

Hi Sparky, it´s the plate number (V4700) "V" from Valencia, Spain.

sounds like lack of fuel - not sure which engine you have, it could be the fuel pump (if it has one) or the jets are blocked in the main needle. There are a few tiny pin holes that can be clogged, they must be clean straight through.

is the carb getting enough fuel? anyway did you take it apart yourself, or just the mechanic that said scrap it?

Hi Neil,

I only know about 3 tractors in Spain thanks to the user maps. It seems that it´s had to find here in Spain.

I recently discovered that now I will look after three, there is a babe coming! We didn´t knew it when I took the picture, but she was pregnant at this moment ^___^

This happened to jump on my trailer. I am thinking it is a 702. 7 HP Kohler with 62 printed on the serial number sticker. It needs some parts and some work, but engine is loose. Can't beat free! Guy said it was his dads tractor and the last time he remembers it running, his dad drove it. He said his dad passed away 26 years ago. Now I have a 701 and 702!

Hello, I am currently nearing completion of the restoration of my Wheel Horse 702 and I am finding parts that I am missing including a starter belt cover, brake guard, seat, deck height adjuster and possibly a new steering wheel. If anyone can point me in the direction to find them I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Hi folks, long story, but here goes.  My dad got this or at least part of this tractor about 30 years ago, I vaguely remember going with him and helping heft it into the back of a pickup truck.  He ended up blending two tractors together for some reason, I dont know why.  He's used it in his small garden, pulling trailers and such.

Fast forward, he's 72 now, I'm turning 48 soon.  So, anywho, he tells me his tractor is locked up, wont shift!!! Rutt row!!! But it is at least in neutral.   I didn't have alot of time to mess with it, not that I wouldnt have, so he finds a place in south bend( an old wheelhorse dealership) that will work  on  it.  We load it up, get there, guys come out to look at it, and guy ask if that's a hydrostatic drive!!, oh no, I knew we were in the wrong place, turns out they wont mess with it, too old!  So before it escalates,  I tell my dad, I'll take care of it, I knows some people, dig it!!

So, on the way home, I says, you have left that tractor outside alot haven't you? Oh no, son, always inside, I didn't believe him.

So I do some googling, and reading through the forum 9n what to do first, or to try.  First, I drained the oil, but there wasn't any, so I shook the tractor and drained the quart of water outta the tranny.  Then I filled it up with gear oil, started the tractor, let it idle abit, slowly but shirly I could shift through all the gears!!!! Yippy!!!!

Then I noticed the head gasket appeared to be blown,  was blowing out the side.  Got a new head gasket,  old one wasn't actually blown, but I installed new one anyway, still blowing by.  More googling led me back here to learn to sand the head as best I could, and then more, pluse some spray on copper permatex.  Sealed the gasket!!!! WOO HOO!!

So next is attaching a fabricated belt restrain on the bottom of the belt guard, I learned I needed that from looking through the forum too, she grinds a little bit when trying to shift.  And I also ordered a new break band today from one of the forum members.

I actually power washed it today, its seen better days, but starting to look better.  I'm gonna change the tranny fluid again, change the engine oil, and then I'm gonna call it good for now.

Anyway, just wanted to share about my dad's old horse, and how I been spending my time lately.  Learned alot too!!!
