B) One mystery solved! But I would start her up while the pulley is off and you have a chance to eliminate it as a cause for the rattle. Or at least one of the causes of more than one rattle mixed together. You should be able to tell if that pulley was indeed slipping at times. The inside of the pulley and/or the outside of the crank would likely have some score marks from it slipping. Next question is, what broke the key? I'd check the drive pulley on the hydro too while I had the belt off. If a PO was rough enough to break one key, he could have also broken others. Check the hub keys too. Let us know what you find.

From what I could tell all the other keys are AOK. Thats about as far as ive gotten on it.
