Restoration started on our 1976, C-120

Recommended Posts

zipper

Hi all,

Joined last month, I personally want to thank everyone that has had a hand in this web site, it's awesome.

Took her ALL apart, except the engine and trans which I have redone in the past 5 years

Plus I overhauled the cutting deck back in 2002, but had it powder coated gloss black, it didn't cost for the powder coating..

Her numbers are 61-12K802 / 13613/6064, K301s/47421d/7355287

Here's some pic's  of the tear down. All the parts are getting sandblasted as I type. Hopefully will get everything back Fri or Sat.

Will try to keep up as I get her together. She is a working tractor and I need her ASAP, grass is turning green.

Thanks to all the replys and encouragment.

Well, its the day after my colonoscopy, feeling much better. Went this morning and picked up all the parts that were sandplasted and primed.

Wed. I made a list of all, new hardware I need, since I couldn't go far the crapper. So I'll see what i have and p/u what I need next week.

If it warms up next week We will start painting her.

You did the right thing by taking yesterday off from your restoration. Painting Wheel Horse parts and a having a Colonoscopy in the same day is too much fun. What would there be to live for after a day like that?!?!?! :ychain:

Well, finally got the stuff back from my buddy the machinest:

front axle - bored out and pressed in bushings for new spindles. (WH did not put bushing in front axle, so I did)

lower steering support - bored out for steering shaft and pressed in a bushing (WH did not put bushing for the upper steering shaft, so I did)and replaced bushing for lower steering shaft.

front hitch - bored out for axle pin and a steel bushing was made and pressed in. I spot welded the bushing when i got home.

now to prime those parts on Fri.

Now the BIG ?? to use stainless or zinc coated hardware ??? I have most of the hardware in zinc coated, but would have to buy the ss.

I noticed your tractor is like my 1977 C-120. There are only 2 holes in the hood stand at the front. My frame had 4 holes 2 at the front and 2 at the back. I drilled 2 more holes in

the hood stand as my hood stand had started to crack and I had to weld it. Check your frame and see if it has the back holes.

Here is a picture it's the unpainted bolt. There was a hole in the cover plate and a hole in the frame but no hole in the hood stand.

Don,

On my frame there are 2 holes on the left side and only 1 on the right.

As far as the hood stand just the 2 holes toward the front.

Thank you for bringing that up, as ours was cracked/broken on both sides just above where the sides attach to the frame with 5/16 x 3/4 bolts, I did weld the pieces up.

And when ever I start putting her back together I'll drill the hood stand and frame for the extra bolts.

Just finished giving her a second coat of regal red. I will probly give here 4 light coat al together??

finally got a coat on the rims, and engine, top of hood & rear pan,

starting to get the itch to bolting her back together,

by the way spent a couple of hours down at the hardware store picking up stainless nuts & bolts I know I'll be back there a few more times

I just ran across this.  I wonder how it would work out on select parts.

http://www.spillcontainment.com/everdry

They say it dries to a milky-white finish, so it probably wouldn't be good for the red parts, but maybe the wheels.

It doesn't appear to be cost prohibitive, I think I'll try some on various items that I don't care about the esthetics of.

Just thought I'd share.

I know it's been a year since I started this overhaul/restore/modefided. a lot has happened this past year. One of my best friends, the one that helped me start painting her passed on Feb 14 2014. Then the bride had foot surgury in mid Feb. lost two months doing house work and cooking, now I know why it's the wife's work.

Well the old girl is just about done, used her twice to cut the grass, I mean the C-120, not the wife.

Here's some pic's, more will follow

I forgot to reset the date on camera

Thanks for all the help when asked.
