First Buy Raider 10

Recommended Posts

Charlie Smith

Hello All, I've been looking at this forum now for a few months and wanted to join in. So I recently found a raider 10 somebody wanted shot of, I thought it was well worth the £150 I payed. So far I haven't found anything wrong with it just its missing the cutting deck belts...., there doesn't look like much work needed. What do you guys think.

:D

Anglo Traction

:WRS:  :flags-wavegreatbritain:  Chris. Very nice Raider 10 well done. Look's like a 1970. And the first I've seen with the possibly original Techy HH100 in it. Not many in UK.

Good Tractor. Enjoy it.

Regards from a Born n Bred Sussex    :wh:  lover .

Hello. Anglo Traction. Yes it is the original HH100 and it was owned by Surrey county council and registered in 1969 I still have the original paper work to show this. It was owned by the Surrey council then sold to a local nursery in Surrey then the nursery stored it up for many years where I came along and brought it. Still got all the original manuals and some service bulletins etc. and got its registry paper work

this is a receipt for a new belt dated 1990

this is the registration sheet. Dated 20th October 1969

the original engine operators manual

the original tractors operators manual

the original cutting deck manual

Hi Chas, good to have another south UK member aboard, I'm just-ish across the border in Kent, 2 miles from E Sussex.

That's a great little Raider you have bought, well worth £150

You know that now you have bought 1 Wh, you won't be able to stop there.. Your new addiction has started :D :D

Yes my addiction won't stop there... Already looking at another one. Yet again it's another raider 1O. But has been standing in a field for 10 years. Heard about it through a freind of a freind. I think it's not going to be pretty lol.

Anglo Traction

Interesting. Model nbr 1-6051. is for a 1970. Would your I.D Plate show the Southbend Indiana USA or Amnor Belgium?.

It could be a US import where it was one of the 1969 'first off the line' productions for sale in 1970. :scratchead: .

The reciept for the belt shows 1981 and it is for an Engine to Deck Drive Belt.

It's good that you have all the paperwork and history. Again, well done.

Regards

My cheap-o walmart U1 battery is starting to bite the dust again (barely able to crank it over fully charged, and ozzing everywhere) after 3 years on my 68' Raider and I am looking into a new battery for winter as I now have a plow setup. I was thinking of either getting the original 22NF battery that came with it or running a mazda mita battery which is a U1 size. Is the AGM worth the extra money over the 22nF even in the smaller size? I think the vibrations keep killing the cheapo batteries and I am trying to make sure I can leave it out in the cold and not have a problem starting in the winter. It does get down to 0F or below zero every once in a while. I don't think I want to go all the way to a 22nF AGM as it is $200.

      Thoughts?

I am picking away at the k series on the raider10. Basically the Piston blew through at the ring grooves as it appears the rings may have had too large a gap. I can feel a slight erosion of the bore where the ring gaps All lined up, but not even close to catching a finger nail.
I am hoping just hoping out the bore will get it back to round close enough that a ring job will do .
In any case I can measure the bore and report back. Discipline demands that I do not tear this engine down right now as too many things are taking up my time.
Just hoping the gurus can offer a bit of guidance

Just recently had a 10 pinion differential axle gears lose their teeth as shown in this picture from a post in 2014.
Was wondering if others have had this happen and if they determined the root cause and corrective actions.
I am considering replacing the two axle gears and five pinions that were destroyed but did not want the same thing to happen again.
I assume the failure was due to a worn cylindrical spring that I also plan to replace.

Been looking at a lot or Raiders and Chargers lately and was wondering if they all have LSD? I know most of them did but I was wondering if some of the later models might have had the Uni drives instead ?

      Thanks, Robbie.
