That block looks pretty pleased with itself! :ROTF: That really is bad, and should be a great reminder to the rest of us to take care of our engines! :scared-eek:

Yet another reason why i like to hoard kohler engine parts! I dont think one can ever have too many spare blocks laying around. Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope you are able to find a new heart for your horse.

this is from my buddy's commando that he just picked up.

he only had it running for a minute or so and bam!!!!!!!.

the damage was from just the connecting rod letting go.

no balance gears were harmed in the making of this hole LOL.

Years ago, I had a troybuilt tiller with a tecumseh on it that I tinkered and tinkered with to get just right. One day I tinkered with it and it went to running better than it ever had and I was soooo happy out tilling up the garden when I started hearing a little ping. I stopped tilling and got to where I could see where the ping was coming from just in time to see the paint on the block change colors right before the rod came through. Something to see when your concentrating on the exact spot the rod comes through when it happens. Went straight to town bought a new 8horse briggs and its out in the shed right now and I would bet a wheel horse (HIGH STAKES) it will start first pull.

Mitch, your Tecumseh blow-up story is almost exactly what happened to me when my Kohler blew up. I was squatting next to it wondering why it seemed to be starving for fuel and I saw the rod blow out through the side of the block. It looked just like those slow motion video's of a bullet hitting an apple.

Very cool thing to have seen, but the price of admission was a little high!

It happened really quick everything took less than 30 seconds Im sure from the time I heard the ping. To the little round burnt spot apearing on the block expanding in a perfect circle to maybe just a little bigger than a quarter. then thump thump HELLO!!!!

Nah, the pictures upside down.

I actually welded all the pieces back into the hole and used that block for another year or two. It leaked oil like a chevy! :hide:
