WHEEL HORSE 18 AUTO VALUE???

Recommended Posts

"D"- Man

I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUY A WHEEL HORSE 18 AUTO WITH MOWING DECK IN RUNNING CONDITION, WITH WORKING HYDRO. OWNER HAS HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT BY LOCAL TORO/WHEEL HORSE DEALER. PAINT IS ORIGINAL BUT REALLY WEATHERED FROM SITTING OUTSIDE. HE IS OFFERING IT TO ME FOR $200.00 I DON'T REALLY NEED IT OR KNOW VERY MUCH ABOUT THIS MODEL. DOES ANYONE THINK I AM LOOKING A GIFT "HORSE" IN THE MOUTH OR SHOULD I LET HIM KEEP IT? THANKS, MARK.

I agree....D series tractors take up a LOT of room...they are on the big side. But 200 is really a steal....I would dip into the egg money to get it for that.

I could use some 18 auto parts for spares, I'm in the process of restoring my 18 auto.

So if you do buy it and dont want it, sell it for parts.

Keep us posted.

Thx

Do yourself a favor and get under the rear end and see if the case is cracked and/or has been repaired (usually brazed). Even if it was broken and repaired it is worth the 200 for sure but that rear is a weak point for sure.

THANKS TO: Tim, 1maidinfan, Trouty56, Kelly, TWENTYHORSETWIN, Rollerman, Wheel-N-it, stevebo, Jake Kuhn, jusjeepn, Shuboxlover, pfreeri, Tankman, JackC, sgtsampay, markjs, KC9KAS, AND ericj I HAVE BOUGHT THE WH 18 AUTO. :woohoo: WHAT I FOUND OUT WAS WHEN THE OWNER SAID. "RUNNING CONDITION" ACTUALLY MEANT IT RAN ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO WHEN HE LAST STARTED IT. THIS SOUNDED A BIT DISAPPOINTING, HOWEVER HE TRIED TO REASSURE ME IF I CLEANED THE FUEL LINE IT SHOULD START. WE'LL SEE. I WAS NOT

ABLE TO GET VERY GOOD PICTURES BECAUSE THEY WERE TAKEN WITH MY CELL PHONE CAMERA.

Well Mark..........things got real quiet after the pics were posted.

If you don't have 200 dollars to blow, don't blow it!

My 2 cents!

Not a pretty setting but $200 is a bargain and it looks like it is all there.

Not sure where you stand on the deal but there is a lot of tractor there. It looks like the tires hold air which will help in moving it.

You apparently will need a battery and some fuel to try to start it.

You might try putting some directly down the carburetor to see if it will fire.

If it will run it will be easy to move and then clean up.

The old Kohlers were good engines and the engine was protected by the hood so there is a good chance it will light off and run.

The weathered paint will clean up with some WD40 to make it look a lot better.

Looks to be a diamond in the ruff as they say.
