I did rebuild a couple of decks, and, have a couple of more to work on.

Try P/N E5-42CS01 and/or E5-48CS01 for starters.

Be careful removing pullies. If you bang them with hammer/socket you will damage the bearings and may bend the shafts. If they are in good shape you may want to just leave them alone.

Those look to be 3/4" keyed, just keep soaking them with penetrating oil. A puller will destroy them and they are not cheap. The metric spindles don't have a key and are 5/8" at the top, those you could clamp an old belt around and try to spin them by blocking the blade.

Great idea, or maybe try using a strap wrench instead of a belt?

I will never forget the last 36 inch mower deck I rebuilt with new bearings and the tought time I had with some pulleys. I used PB Blaster and soaked them overnight . When I can out the next moring and turned over the mower deck one pulley that was stuck like glue -fell off!

I have been a beleiver in PB Blaster since. It was an older deck with cast pulleys.

Also painted the decks with valspar IH red

post-1188-0-48160100-1355114103_thumb.jp

And coated the undersides with teflon paint designed for gravity wagons

Will see how well it works and for how long :confusion-shrug:

I'm curious about the teflon paint. Where do you find something like that? It sounds like a great idea in theory.

i got it at Fleet Farm

We have used it in grain wagons and it does wear over time but we will see how long it lasts on the decks

I'd be more interested on how it keeps grass from collecting under the deck.

POR-15 works well for the underside also. It's tough stuff.

Cable

I fabricated a tool that fits into the two holes on the pulley and the use an impact wrench from underneath. This method has never failed me and never damaged a pulley or bearings. They tend to spin off as opposed to pulling off this way. Some very small cracks have been discovered that I may not have seen otherwise. A good wire brushing with a wire wheel helps make the small cracks show up.

Good luck.

Cable, do you have any photos of that tool and how you make it work for you? Thanks!

For Durability I would go with what Dr. Furrburger said POR is great stuff have been useing it for over 20 years. They have some paint now called Hard Nose

which is even better than the standard POR paint. I have some Decks to do myself and thats what I will be useing. Yers Looks Great :handgestures-thumbupright: yer doing a good job.
