414-8 transmission problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have a 414-8 tractor. all of a sudden it will not do anything in high range. All gears

work in low range. It doesn't make any strange noises when high range. The shift lever does

move like it is suppose to.. Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? thanks

I am far from an expert on WH trans problems but the high/low shifter on my C-85 is stuck in one range. Not sure which, but are you sure yours is going all the way into high range? I've read a bit here and sometimes it seems the high/low will not shift right if the engine is running. With the clutch (belt) release pushed in, if you try and shift the trans will spin when the selector reaches neutral and not let the gears engage properly. Try shifting with the engine off and see if it will work.

:twocents-02cents: not adjusted for inflation! :hide:

Boatman, I would try rockin the tractor back and fork a little, But DON"T FORCE it...Did it ever go into High range??? It could be bound up or Worst case sceniaro the High.Low shifter fork is Broke..If the fork broke you looking at splitting the Trans..Here's a pic of the shifter fork and as you can see there are not that Beefy and are prone to Breaking.

How old is the belt? If it feels like it is going into all gears its not uncomon for the belt to just slip in hi range. I've had this happen on 2 tractors.

Hi all, Just got back from porland show where i bought another transaxle.

The other trans the lever is not stuck and it worked just fine. Then

all of a sudden I didn't have any high range. I bought a shifter fork at the

portland show just in case that is what it is. I will split it later this fall

as I've never had one apart and don't have time now to do it.The shift lever

moves back and forth like it should and even feels normal, how ever when in the

high position does not do anything. I will post later when I get into it what I

find. Thanks for the replys.
