HorseFixer 2,012 #1 Posted July 5, 2008 What Steering Wheels And Columns Interchange With A 854? Thanks Duke B)
BPjunk 184 #2 Posted July 5, 2008 Duke, Any of the 1964 year model round hoods can interchange the upper steering shaft which is part number 4971. I am sure other upper steering shafts from the round hood models of the early 60's will work but the roll pin hole for the steering wheel may be in a different location. Wild Bill in Richmond, Va. Rollerman 290 #5 Posted July 5, 2008 A nice 2-spoke '64 to '67 "standard" steering wheel with a good center cap could be considered very rare. I would actually like to find at least two of them myself. An I'd like to add a "Non" tilt steering wheel is even harder to find. I have a few of the "tilt" wheels here...you know...the ones that are broke & flop back & forth from being used as a hand hold. B)
sorekiwi 761 #6 Posted July 5, 2008 hmmmm 3/4" shaft eh? Like off a furnace blower Guess I know where some of that stuff is like right out in my garage! Yep, normal old 3/4 mild steel. I just made a lower shaft for my Lawn Ranger, and need to make one for the upper too. I didnt have a piece lying around that was long enough, so used the old steering shaft that I'd replaced on my RJ. There's something satisfying about making something out of all the old crap you have lying around "because it might come in handy one day"
