gipster 1 #1 Posted January 22, 2012 Hi all, Mt c175 wouldn't turn over yesterday. The starter would spin, but it wouldn't engage the flywheel. I finally got it to start, but i had to run the starter for a while before it would engage. Is this a common problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks jim
smoreau 658 #2 Posted January 22, 2012 The treads on the Bendix drive will cause it to freeze up on cold whether. One of mine did the same thing yesterday. You can remove the blower housing or remove the starter, witch ever is easier for you. clean up the threads on the bendix drive and ad some graphite lube. not grease! that should take care of the problem. Also the KT17 likes to ware out the output bushing on the starter. There is a aftermarket kit made by a foren company in taiwan part #26-9218 that is a bushing kit and starter brushes for around $16. I have installed two of these in my Kohler starters with great luck.

mdn1081 1 #5 Posted February 7, 2012 smoreau is absolutely right. Had the same thing happen to my Kt17. Cleaned up the starter there a bit and works great.
