Valve Seating Quick Check

Recommended Posts

HorseFixer

While you have the Head Gasket removed for cleaning there is a quick check that you can do to see if the exhaust and intake valves are seating properly.

Take a dollar bill on one of the corners and insert in the exhaust or intake valve when they are open. Turn crank and let the valve close completley on the small corner of the dollar bill. Then pull on the dollar bill. If the corner rips or tears then the valve is seating properly. if you can remove the bill easily then they have too much clearence and it is time for a grind! This is a quick test and will give a close indication on how the valve wear and seats stand.
