36" RD Deck

Recommended Posts

Teddy da Bear

I have had wheel horses and decks for a long time. I am not entirely unfamiliar.

But now I have 2 decks with just "bolt" heads on top of the deck spindles and no grease fittings.

I have pictures of what "I am used to seeing" and what "I am not".

Did someone just cobble something up and leave out the grease fittings? Is it an older style?

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Do you think the ones that do not have grease fittings are suppose to be disassembled by hand and greased?

If so, I am going to see about putting some fittings on like my other decks.

That is if I can find them.

Would it be possible to drill and tap for a fitting in the side of the spindle housing???

just my two CENTS i have done that (drill a hole in spindle taped an put grease fittings) if the baldes are quiet i think its a good idea , But some bearings are sealed even ones out of the 70's so it wouldent do them any good . JUST MY TWO CENTS lol

Those spindles without the grease fittings are pemanently lubricated ( :WRS: ) from the factory. The bearing and shaft is one unit and is pressed in to the spindle housing.

103119 is the P/N for the for the bearing assembly (for the older 36" 3 blade decks), which sell for close to $30 EACH!

Here's what one looks like removed from the housing.

You can see that it wouldn't be easy to add a grease fitting.
