Wish I'd seen this earlier. Nice work Martin. Guess I've missed the boat with the ploughs and only 25 miles away.. But you have a P.M.

Martin,

shame you have run out of time - was a top notch job you had done

Hope it goes to a good home.

After all that work it would be a shame to abandon it. They look great restored and they are nice quiet and economical workers.

This little C-81 is now tucked up in my workshop, making friends with the C-125. Thank you Martin, I'll take good care of it and continue posting progress here as it occurs.

'Tis indeed a shame Martin hadn't the time to finish it. I'll not get much chance to much till the New Year, but I'm hoping to have it up and running by the end of March.

As the saying goes, "Best laid plans of mice and men."

I did intend to have the C-81 up and running by March. But with one thing and another, dismal failure. Today was the first time I've done anything to it, since bring it from Martins.

So for today the silencer got painted and fitted. Engine bolted down, Handbrake fitted. One or two other little jobs done. Also a lot of studying and working out what goes where.

A little, (I hope) list is being compiled of what I may need, though most of the tractor is there. First on the list are front wheel dust caps. One is split. Some new rear wheel studs would be nice.

The originals are rather rusty. Any ideas from where, lads?

Hopefully, things will progress a little quicker now, but don't hold your breath.

A year ago I said a little quicker. It didn't happen. But today was a tad different.

Start of play this morning.

Tomorrow sort the wiring and see if I can get it running.

A bit of an update. Got the wiring sorted and got it running. It ran sweet at idle but would die when the throttle was opened. Also the carb float bowl leaked. The bowl had no seal and didn't look like the right one. Cutting a long story short, another carb was sourced and fitted. This was an earlier one with adjustment for both main and idle mixture. It now runs and revs, but fuel mixture is still hard to set. Though it revs, at wide throttle openings it tends to miss a bit. I'm awaiting a replacement float bowl for the original carb, which I'll put back on after a thorough clean and see what happens.

I'm happy to see this thread continue on. That's a great looking restoration.

I know it's been a while and though the C-81's been finished for nearly a year, I finally got round to attaching the decals.

Does'nt actually look like a vintage tractor, could have been born today, and good for the next 30-40 years. Beautiful!

Thanks for the kind words, lads. I just finished it off. Martin did the hard work.

On Sunday took it to a local vintage rally. Got 3rd place in the horticultural tractor section, after two superb Ransome crawlers.
