Normally with a tape measure, the yardstick just isn't accurate enough :woohoo:

Width of Cut is measured from outside blade tip to blade tip when the the two (or two outer) blades are parallel along the long axis of the deck.

In other words, flip your deck over and position the two outer blades so they are pointing at each other. Measure from the left tip of the left blade to the right tip of the right blade. That is the width of cut. The housing is always wider than the stated width of cut.

Just by looking that is a 48"

And same as Mike said, on how to measure them.

The 48" decks have the reinforcing plate under the pulleys, so the belt covers bolt on from the sides, the 42" the belt covers have a flange that the screws go though in to the top of the deck.

just things you pick up, owning so much crap.

Just measure the width from the outer edge of gauge wheels.

ok mikesRJ. i see how it's gonna be :D .

the deck has some pretty bad damage but i think it's good enough to part out.

i just want to make sure i know what size it is before people start asking for parts.

thanks guys.

yup sure enough it's a 48" deck.

i hate to move the yard stick twice though :woohoo::ROTF: .

ok mikesRJ. i see how it's gonna be :woohoo: .

I got a chance to meet MikesRJ and some of his partners in crime at the Wheel Horse show last weekend, maybe you did too.

My impression? Yeah, that's pretty much EXACTLY how it's gonna be! :ROTF:

Seriously, a couple of other ways to tell how big your deck is: :D

  • [*:k59cy30s]Measure one of your blades, multiply by the number of blades, round up a little bit.[*:k59cy30s]I've been told the 42" side discharge decks all have the height adjustment lever on the right side (both of mine do), the 48" side dischargers have it on the left.

Oh, wow, I just got wallfish's joke!
