rocko_brown 0 #1 Posted April 10, 2011 Ok so, I just started to rewire my 1965 1075 but I couldnt find a 6g starter wire for it. Is it ok to use 4g on it or, is that too much for it? I dont want to try and turn it over and burn anything out. And for the rest of the wiring im using 16g and 18g. Is this correct or no?? I dont have a manual of any kind so I have no clue except by sight. Attached Image
Save Old Iron 1,563 #2 Posted April 10, 2011 4 AWG will do no harm and provide no benefit either. You wouldn't wire your house wall sockets with 10 AWG on a 15 amp circuit because it would not provide any benefit. You will have wasted your money and created an unnecessary hassle wrestling the larger cable into a confined space. 16 awg should be fine but use 14awg for heavier loads like headlights and wires to and from the ammeter. If your system is starter generator based, your charge amps will be limited to 10 amps anyway. 18 awg is a little light except for gauge wiring like voltmeters, oil pressure senders, etc. I don't believe your tractor has those. Save your hard earned money and spend it on the essentials in life.
