Tylers C120 first restore job

Recommended Posts

n1defan

This is my sons C120. He turns thirteen tomorrow 3-15-2011. So I thought it is time for him to learn how to work on his own stuff.

We got this  from Kelly a few weeks back. Once again thanks Kelly. It is one good running tractor.

Here is Ty starting on the hood.

We soaked it in the E tank for about three days and then finished stripping it with a wire wheel.

Here is Ty painting it.

Looks good can't wait to meet that young man, by the way I swapped hoods on that tractor and the decals are not correct so don't put that style back on it.

I hated selling that tractor it is a nice machine, it just needed some TLC

I have to agree here..I do not like to preach to people but when it comes to young kids I have to say something..Get a respirator for the young man also a dust mask for doing the sanding..

My father-in-law died two years ago from respiratory problems. Mostly from doing old tractor restorations etc. is what they figured. This doesn't usually affect you until your older. Also be careful as I bet some of these older tractors have lead paint too.. You only get one set of lungs and eyes etc so take care of them.

At least on the youngsters..

Sorry Just had to say it. I'll get off the box now, LOL

That said, It is great that he is doing this, these things teach the kids a lot that they will use throughout their lives. My kids always talk about how I let them drive the tractors all around the yard. They laugh and joke about one day when they first started and they almost crashed into something. They talk about some of the old tractors I redid and had sold etc. Sure wish I had kept some of them...

Looks like he is off to a great start, and looks like he has great guidance.

I am wondering what does the E tank consist of battery charger, plastic tub and is that stainless? and what is in it water?

I started handing wrenches under the car to my Dad when I was 10-12. By the time I was about 14-15, I was doing most of the maintenance (oil changes, spark plugs, points, etc) on the family "fleet" (we had 4 cars).

Looking good there !

The E tank is made from a 55 gallon drum, six pieces of 1/8 mild steel,12 volt battery charger, water, and washing soda. One table spoon of soda per gallon of water. If you plan on making one do not use stainless steel.

Just as a note he does have both, safety glasses and a respirator. He just did not have them on when I took the pics. You know how kids are he did not want to look dorky. But yes I do agree safety first. Thanks for the concern.

I aree with Don . Nice to see a young man take an interest in something besides being plugged into a computer . A lot of kids these days seemed to be connected to some sort of electronic device . He's doing a great job from what I can see.

I will echo the sentiments of others... SOOOO nice to see a young person interested in something without a monitor!

Keep up the great work!
