702 amp meter problem

Hello fellow Members! I was needing help with knowing how to test my starter Gen. to see if it is charging. se the amp meter will rock slitly back and forth about a millimeter. so i cant tell i its the amp meter or the Gen. My grandpa really dosent want to replace either until he knows which one it is. well to make a long story short which setting do i need to set the multimeter to? and where do i place the the prongs on the multimeter at. :thumbs: Any help would be great. Dont use your multimeter to test amps, most only read up to 10 amp and you could blow the fuse. I would set it on the 20VDC scale, measure battery voltage across the post before you start, and after and compare reading, Before should be 12.5 or slightly higher, and over 13 running at full RPM
