In the "old days" their used to be a large metal flake paint I think

it was called monster flake, used on bass boats and cycle helmets,

I was thinking of doing it to my tractor. All red and sparkley to attract

the red necks in the hood. Is that stuff still made? Is it possible to

get in rattle cans? Just wondering. :)

I kinda like the concept you're suggesting! As to application, I don't think you can get true metal flake in a rattle can - it takes a special nozzle that can handle the flakes, and from what I've read it's a multi-step, multi-coat process.

We've got a number of experienced body men among our membership; I'll look forward to hearing what they have to say!

Save Old Iron

The mega flake look is still available but does not get applied like the "old days".

you will need a special dry gun to shoot flakes size / color of your choosing onto a very "wet" paint coat. Then a clear top coat.

Every time I tried to shoot aggressive metal flake paint back in the 70's, I ended up with "tiger stripes". Of course that was technique at fault, not the tool's or paint's fault.

Then there is the epoxy garage floor paint that you can get in many colors including red. Apply with a brush or roller and sprinkle your colored flakes on top. :)
