Rollerman 290 #1 Posted April 4, 2008 Here's the latest Horse to call the "Jones Stables" home...a 1964 model 854! I found this one about 100' from my shop! It's got some wear & tear...the tins are in decent shape though. I brought it home in the bed of my pickup in peices...I drove around the block & backed up to my neighbors garage & loaded it up....Yes he was home. The trans was gone....a bearing had froze spinning in the case & gauging it up to bad to be reused. Not a problem... I have extras...next will be to fix the excessively sloppy steering. This is a pic after I put 98% of it together last night.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,088 #2 Posted April 4, 2008 The sheet metal looks to be in nice shape and if you have the parts already, that's a great deal!
Greg B. 1 #3 Posted April 4, 2008 That's nice, Stephen. I'm starting to like those little, round nosed, sports models! Greg B.

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,315 #5 Posted April 4, 2008 This must be the 854 you posted about a few days ago. It looks pretty good. I guess "some assembly was required".

refracman 166 #8 Posted April 5, 2008 Nice find Stephen, looks like your basket case went together a little faster than mine, and it looks in good condition too!
Rollerman 290 #9 Posted April 5, 2008 and where did you find all that floor space? I'd say I'm about done now....actually considering building a shelf for my RJ's & Suburbans. Get a little more floor space. looks like your basket case went together a little faster than mine I still pull it all aprt for more extensive repairs in the future. But it was in running condition other than the trans....so I wanted to try & drive it as is.
Kelly 1,028 #10 Posted April 5, 2008 That's like cheating, maybe you should drive it around town use up some gas. It looks nice, good score looks like a easy restore, or fix up and leave orig. and the plow and deck to boot
perry 82 #11 Posted April 5, 2008 good deals stephen thats in great shape. i do love the round hoods ok, now i am a little confused. i thought the models with the aluminum gas tank where all 1963's. . my 604 has the full hood and seperate gas tank.
Kelly 1,028 #12 Posted April 5, 2008 The aluminum tanks started in 61 and went till 64 I don't know all the models, but I think 701 was the first, then in I think 63 they went to a two piece tank looks the same but prone to leak, they as you know, used the long round hood till 69 on the lawnrangers. That's all I know or think I know, I have a guess that the long hoods like your 604 after the alum. tank were the cheaper tractors but again that is just a guess.
