Changing rubber boot on tranny

Recommended Posts

I tried a search with not much luck. I picked up a new rubber boot for the tranny, just wondering how the knob comes off to change the boot on a C165?

Yep, the knob screws on, they are usually pretty tight.

If it wont unscrew by hand I wrap a rag around it and undo it with a pair of channellock pliers or a plumbing pipe wrench. Hopefully the rag stops the pliers gouging the plastic knob, but sometimes it happens. The knob can be cleaned up with a file, sandpaper and then buffed on a buffing wheel in a grinder.

I do the same idea as mike but use a piece of rubber and vice grips. I think the rubber piece was from a broken vacuum cleaner belt.

Save Old Iron

You could also use a rubber strap wrench intended for plumbing fixtures.
