Serial numbers from 604's, 654's and 704's

Recommended Posts

I was hoping some of you that own a 604, 654, or a 704 could list your serial numbers with the model number of the tractor. I purchased one at the Wheel Horse Show and I am trying to narrow down which model it may be. As always any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, Chris.

SERIAL - MODEL - OWNER/PROVIDER

A-59856 - 704 - squonk

A-60381 - 704 - TT

A-73633 - 654 - dandan111

Send a PM or email to member gwest_ca. I don't think he stops in here much, but he's been collecting serial numbers and building a database for quite some time. He may have some help for you.

Kelly... he's got pics in this thread. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=19528

Lord Hellmutt I sent a email to gwest_ca so hopefully he may have a answer. Thanks for the responses we are getting really close to my model number. If I could get a number above mine but below dandan111's 654 I think I could call it a 704. Once again thanks for the responses and maybe I will get a few more serial numbers too help narrow it down, Thanks Chris.

I keep getting closer, thank you all who have taken the time to look and report your serial numbers. Currently I have a 704 300 units less than my serial number and a 654 600 units higher than me so I getting really close. Again thanks for your help and I hope I can get a number one way or the other that overlaps. Thanks, Chris.

Chris,

Kind of a simpler way to tell what you have is this, go by the wiring.

A model 604 and 704 will have only 1 wire whitch cuts the ignition off to the engine. These tractor models will not have a battery box. The 604 is Tecumseh powered and the 704 uses a Kohler engine.

A model 654 will have the battery box and several wires for the charging system of the H-60 Tecumseh.

Thanks BPjunk, I am leaning towards it being a 704 since there never was a battery box welded there. There also doesn't seem to have ever been a key switch installed, and with the serial numbers I seem to be sitting between the 654's and 704's. I did pull the head off the engine today and measured the bore and stroke and figure out it that it is a K141. I figure I will give it another a few days to see if any more serial numbers pop up. Thanks again everyone for the help with the serial numbers, Chris.

If it's a 704 it should have a K161T, spec # 28937E.

Sorry, the serial # tag on my 704 has been rattle canned over.

My serial number is A-60977 on my 654 tractor. Mine has a tecumseh h-60 with electric start. Appears to be the original engine.

Chris,

My 704 has only 4 numbers for the serial number, 6119. It has no A prefix or 5 numbers like everyone elses? But, the serial number sticker looks like all the others posted. :D

Congrats on your restore! First you will have to upload your pictures to a site like photobucket(there are others but I do not know their names off hand). Several of them have a free service for posting your pictures. Once they are uploaded you will copy and paste the "IMG CODE" it will look something like this:

"%7Boption%7DMowerQuestions001.jpg[/img"

You can copy and paste as many as you would like in one post. If you have any trouble let me know, I also think there is a sticky somewhere on the subject.
