Part # for gearshifter rubber sealing grommet

Recommended Posts

OK,

So where do we get the ~2" diameter main gearshifter seal?

They look the same for the 4 and 8-Speed versions.... is this correct?

And to think 'there are no stupid questions'.... except mine!!

:omg:

I suppose 'boot' would be the proper name for it.

What's the PN for 4/8-Spd transaxles?

Sorry to hijack, but I can't get the shifter knob to come off so I can replace the shifter boot.

This is on my 653.

Any ideas?

Wrap several wide rubber bands or a small section of bicycle inner tube around the knob and then go at it with vise grips or a pipe wrench. The rubber bands will grip and protect the plastic. Could also try a strap wrench if you have one.

If that doesn't work, then release the retaining screw, pull the whole shifter lever out so you can turn it upside down and try to get some rust penetrant in the threads.

Rob: And if you mess up the knob you can get very nice ones with brass inserts from this place:

I forget the size needed for your shifter but they have them.

I am always amazed at how tight those old knobs with the plastic threads get on those wheel horses.

I have order about three or four times for a bunch of different Wheel Horse applications. Very good service from these folks.

Thanks for the info guys.

No worries on diverting the thread. That was very informative and a necessary procedure to properly replace the boot.
