Kohler Command 14hp, white goo in dipstick tube

Recommended Posts

racer4

Just checked the oil today on the 314-8 after blowing the snow we got last night and there was a thin layer of white goo on the inside of the dipstick tube. For a water cooled motor I know that means bad news, but for an air cooled what is it? Just condensate from the crankcase and cold temps? Should I worry? Just changed the oil before winter, engine has only 300 hrs on it. Big snow coming tomorrow!!! More seat time.

Racer4:

Don't know what it is, but I also get it on my Kohler 10M (magnum). I've

always assumed it is frozen condensation inside the tube.

I feel you guys are correct, just condensation because of temp difference inside and outside of tube. not an internal engine problem.

Most likely just condensation. I get the same thing on my walk behind snowblower engine. I do think I recall reading here at some point that it might not hurt to check your crankcase breather to be sure it's not plugged or hung up.

It's just condensation. Don't worry about it. If you run it long enough it will cook out. Change your oil in the spring and you'll be fine.
