Can't tell much from those pictures, but with the cast front axle it's not an RJ-58, it's either a 1960 or 61. It look's like there's a hole in the hood for the choke or throttle cable so I'll guess it's a 401.

Why oh why must they butcher those hoods.. :notworthy:

I'd have to agree with Buzz on what can be seen from these pictures. 61 chopped hood???? and it looks like a 3pc tranny but hard to tell. 1961 401

Chopping the hood is one way to get around the task of getting that wheel off.

Seems like the early models seen the hood hacking for some reason, :notworthy: Rick

The wheels can be a real problem as well as fitting anything more than a 4hp motor under that hood.

1960 suburban 400, based from the footrests and engine.

Where you located?

I'll agree with the foot rests, but that isn't the original engine. The hood looks like it had a rectangular opening, which would also mean 1960, that has been opened up to clear the steering shaft.

BTW, Where is the serial number tag?

I finally got to see the clutch/brake pedal in a picture of this on another site.

The pedal is cast iron - which (along with the other details) would make it a 1961 401.

That's my final answer. :notworthy:

50+ tractors

Can you tell us what you have? Are you going to restore them or do you like the beauty of an old tractor?
