USHorse 41 #1 Posted December 22, 2009 Sure I am reading into this too deeply and just confusing myself but my K-sereis repair manual shows two differnt spark plug gaps for the various K-series engines. The gap is either 0.025" or 0.035" depending on the series and/or ignition type. The ignition types noted are battery, magneto, breakerless. Then, below the chart it says... "Note: On gas fueled engines, gap is 0.018" on all engine models" Now the "dumb" question that I have been hesitating to ask....aren't all these engines "gas fueled" and the gap therefore 0.018"??? Please prove or disprove my intellect. To further damage my confidence, I couldn't tell a magneto, battery or breakerless ignition apart unless it came labeled from Kohler!! Be gentle Thanks :notworthy:
pfrederi 17,146 #2 Posted December 22, 2009 0.18 is for propane or natural gas powered motors What is teh spec number of your motor so we can see if it is battery or Magneto. If the engine has a coil on it (think beer can with a wire out the top that goes to the spark plug) you have battery
USHorse 41 #3 Posted December 22, 2009 Engine: K341S-71371, Serial # 14199379 and I certainly do have a coil
rick 215 #4 Posted December 23, 2009 Spark plug gap with battery ignition (automotive coil type) is .035.

RJR49 121 #8 Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) The manual says the .035 gap is for breakerless ignitions. Whats a breaker? My K 341 has points in addition to a battery and a coil. So I guess I'm breakerless. The manual also lists a Kohler P/N for the spark plug. Currently I'm using a Champion H10C. Any thoughts? pfrederi 17,146 #9 Posted September 29, 2021 points are also called Breaker points. You need the .035 I am an ABC plug guy (anything but champions) I use Autolite
RJR49 121 #10 Posted September 29, 2021 Thanks. I guess calling it a pointless ignition doesn't sound quite right.
