Correct 604/654 engine??

Recommended Posts

64s

Hi Guys, Could anyone post the spec numbers off of their 34E/R and 604/654. I'm a little confused as to the correct engine. Wheel Horse by Years lists;

34E (electric start) as H60-75064B

34R (recoil start) as H60-75063B

and

604 (recoil start) as H60-75064B

654 (electric start) as H60-75063B

Am I missing something, the 34E (electric) is the same as the 604 (recoil)????

Could anyone who has an original survivor please post the spec numbers - I'm looking for the correct 34E engine. Thanks, George

According to the Toro site, the 34E takes the H60-75064B engine. Hopefully that's correct.

Thanks Buzz, but I'm looking for actual owners numbers. The web sites have been know to be wrong and it doesn't make sense that one engine would be used for a recoil start on one machine and the same engine be used as an electric start for another machine.

I'll add to the confusion...

Last week I bought out the remaining inventory of an old wheel horse dealer...

Included (among others) were a 654 and a Lawn Ranger 34E...

654: Repainted years ago...ID nearly impossible to read...here's the best I could do...

H60-75267G Serial # 7180 04223.

I'm pretty sure of the numbers except for the "67G" on the 6 horse Tec. and they were pretty much just a guess !!!

Lawn Ranger 34E...Well, it might be a 34E ???

H60-750618 Serial # 3255 04816

I used a spot light...magnifying glass, graphite dust..I'm pretty sure of all the numbers except the "618", and as above... pretty much a guess !!!

Of course, the numbers I can't bet on...they are the most important ones. The ID plate on the Little Lawn Ranger has so many coats of new paint it may never again be legible. I might try steel wool????

Wheel Horse/Toro site says...

'63 33E used H60-75009

'64 34E used H60-75064B

Waiting for someone to solve the mystery...

'64 34E used H60-75064B

Marv, on the last three digits of the spec number, the 618 you see could very well be a 64B. Part of the "4" could be worn making it look like a "1", and a "B" and an "8" are very similar looking when worn. Just a thought.

Thanks Guys for the info. Based on Michael's machines and other info I've uncovered, I'm led to believe that the Toro site is wrong, and the correct engine for the 1964 Tecumseh electric start is the H60-75063B.

If anyone else has a tag that differs (or collaborates the info), please let me know.

Thanks again everyone, George

hey george,

one thing that makes it real simple is the Recoil engines such as the h60-75064B and others they dont have starter covers mounted to the shroud

as far as the toro site :notworthy:
