Help with new headlight lens

Recommended Posts

Polaris2007

:notworthy: I just got a BRAND NEW plastic headlight lens for my C-120 from Partstree.com. It looks really nice...it has the decal already stuck to the back. The problem is that they stuck their big fat price label right on the front of it. I tried to carefully remove the stick on label, but even with a little bit of heat from my heatgun, all the sticker residue stayed on the face of the lens.

Anyone know of a way to get this residue off without damaging or clouding up the lens? is Goo-Gone safe? Please help!

I would rubbing alcohol and a soft cotton rag. The alcohol will loosen the gun, the rag will pick it up. After you're done, clean the lens with some glass cleaner.

Goo Gone will be safe and probably the best bet. It is citrus based, and safe for the headlight lense. I have actually used it to clean some tar residue from my c160 headlight

Plastics and alcohol based cleaners are usually a last resort.

key phrase in the video "this could happen months later"

If it does get hazy you can buy a plastic polish now, made for plastic headlights on cars. That will clean it up real nice. I've used it on my car once a year in the fall and it does a great job.

Just don't confuse Goo Gone with Goof Off !!

Goof Off contains xylene and toluene which will attack plastics - no doubt.

I run into this quite a bit in the shop and its a pain when those guys plaster their label's on everything! One product that i have found to be most effective in dissolving the goo, and not the plastic is "Sprayway glass cleaner". If you spray it on and let it soak a few times, the sticky goo will usually slide right off with a paper towel. Hope this helps!. Great site by the way!!! :notworthy:
