Onan Fuel pump????

Recommended Posts

Sparky

I'm finally startin to get my D-160 with an Onan Twin ready for service and the "Big Show". I have only run it off a remote tank. The fuel line from the real tank is there and hooked up to the fuel pump but the line from the pump to the carb was never there.

I have 2 questions...why is there 2 inlets and 2 outlets on the pump and which outlet do I use? And do I need to plug up the unused outlet. One of the inlets is allready plugged but this is how it came to me so it may be wrong. Does anyone have one they could take a pic of?

The two left ports are inlets and the two rights are outlets.

Mike the unused ports in my 416 are plugged with solid caps and spring clips. Mine uses the inlet port on the bottom and the outlet port on the top. I'll get a pic in the morning if you would like.

Sounds good Karl. I wonder if yours is the same as mine. The Onan on the "D" is the BF series.

The pump looks identical and is in the same spot. Not sure what series mine is but it is a

P216G-I / 10976D if that helps?

I found an older picture and blew it up best I could. I'll get a better one tomorrow.

That'll do it, thanks. I just need to cap off the lower port and I'll be all set.

I'm still wondering why it has dual ports tho  .

In case anyone was curious  .

I have no idea why it has 2 ports. Even the manual only shows 1 in use. I took mine apart once, and there isn't much need for 2 in my opinion.

My 1990 416H actually has a drain hose (?) hooked to the bottom right hand nipple.

My 1990 520-8 had the caps just like yours, Karl.

Did it drain back to the tank? Or into the  GROUND? Cant be the ground, that wouldnt be enviromentally acceptable.

I just remembered it being there when I was looking at the pictures.

I'll have to go out to the shop tomorrow and see where it goes.

I'm betting that it is either plugged or not supposed to be there at all.

Well -- the truth is in the pictures. The line appears to be a factory overflow tube of some sort -- as indicated by the "P" clamp with undisturbed paint mounted inside the frame rail.

Why my 1990 520-8 speed didn't have one is beyond me.

By the way -- I pulled it off with the engine running and there's "nothing there". (no vacuum or pressure) The hose isn't plugged off either. :D

I have that same line but it is supposed to hook up to the bottom of the battery box not the fuel pump! Sounds like maybe it fell of at one time and a PO thought that it should go there. I'll try to take some pictures later, but that line definitely runs to the bottom of the battery as a drain!

That would make more sense -- I know I didn't put it there.

It's been that way since I bought it two Junes ago ! I guess I'll have to "fix" it now.

Thanks, Karl!

That must be a newer IPL -- mine doesn't even show the battery tray. (It does show the battery in the electrical / wiring plate though  )
