92Pony 1 #1 Posted September 19, 2009 So, how long does it take to see what's wrong in these pictures? Sheesh.... I don't even know how long I'd been running it like that. I do know that it put a hurtin' on the belt - it looks kinda melted. It also has a couple of bad cracks in it - don't know if they're a result of the misuse, or a result of normal wear - probably the former....dangit. It's back on correctly now though. nylyon-(Admin) 7,088 #2 Posted September 19, 2009 I'm surprised you didn't see a lot of smoke? I'll bet the mower has better performance now.
N.C. horserider 5 #3 Posted September 19, 2009 The only thing that saved the belt was the round stock on PTO. Happens to the best of us, get in a hurry to get it running and make a mistake.
92Pony 1 #4 Posted September 19, 2009 Yep - in a hurry. I remember being in a hurry last time I put the deck back on...... That's one mistake that now, hopefully I won't make again! And yeah Coach, surprisingly no smoke - I did notice the belt jumping a little bit which had me wondering..... Uh, now I know why that was happening!
dgoyette 12 #5 Posted September 19, 2009 What I don't see anything... just kidding...belt routing is definitely one of those things that it pays to take your time. Belt still looks pretty good - but no idea how long it would take to see appreciable wear.
pbradley68 1 #6 Posted September 19, 2009 When I do things like that I just call it a "custom modification" :scratchead:
MikesRJ 551 #7 Posted September 19, 2009 You didn't smell any burnt-belt smell? :scratchead:
HorseFixer 2,012 #8 Posted September 19, 2009 That's what ya call an idler ARM, later there came the idler pulley! Hey as they say stuff happens! :scratchead:
sawhorse 0 #9 Posted September 19, 2009 A wheel horse is a very forgiving beast. As I was mowing tall weeds today with the b-115, something horrible happened. A noise that sounded like the motor was about to go. But it turned out to be two of the fins on the hydro getting pulled under the belt. Dang weeds. But the fins just bent right back and I was mowing again in 10 minutes.
Rollerman 290 #10 Posted September 19, 2009 My father used that optional belt configuration on his 310-8 one time. Glad I got there in time to catch it. Now with the belt routed correctly could you get the idler tension pullies at the front tight enough? :scratchead:
92Pony 1 #11 Posted September 21, 2009 "Custom modification" - LOL! Definitely not a desirable modification though! Oddly enough Mike, I didn't smell any burning rubber! And yeah, thankfully, I was able to get the belt tightened. Wade
