slantram 9 #1 Posted September 2, 2009 I have a blown 12 Hp 301 and would like to know if there is a way to check for a bent crank. Possibly measure the runout at the end of the crank?Haven't opened it up yet but it turns over freely so I'm guessing it let go at the crank end.Do they Normally bend the crank when they let go or not?This is a 1983 motor from an Ariens or a Jacobsen I think.If there is some kind of procedure for checking this let me know what it is. daemon2525 5 #2 Posted September 2, 2009 I can't imagine bending a crankshaft in a k301. They are pretty tough bits of steel. However, there is a chance that the crankpin is worn out of tolerance and will need turned for an undersized rod. And there is the chance of aluminum smeared on the pin from the rod.
