Replacing Gear Lube in a B-80 4 sp. ...???

Recommended Posts

I just drained the tranny/differential in my newly acquired 4sp. B-80. According to the charts, it should have 2 qts of 90-140w GL-5 gear lube. It drained for quite some time and only yielded less than 1 qt. of slightly milky gear lube. Ok, it must have been low and had some water in it. Good thing I'm changing it now. Filled it till it ran out the fill port and it took slightly less than 1 qt. Hmmmm, what's up with this? Tomorrow, I'll check it again and with any luck, it burped and I'll be able to add more gear lube. Has anyone else experienced this?

The water emulsion probably has a lot of it sticking to the walls and everywhere else. You would probably be better off draining it again, and flushing it out with kerosene.

I had planned on several lube changes due to the presence of water. What's the procedure to use kero as a flush?
