Replacement Engines

Recommended Posts

tarcoleo

I know most here are into OEM engines and components as part of

restoration projects. Some, like me, are not purists but are interested

in the work a Wheel Horse can do, or might do even better. I have

replaced an original Twigs and Staghorn junker engine in a C-111 with

a Honda 11 HP. Talk about reliable and strong, it runs my new (to me) 48"SD

with no problem.

I note that the Chinese are producing knock offs of the Honda one-cylinder

series of OHV engines. These run about half the cost or less of the originals.

There are 11, 13 and 16 HP models, sold freight included, at-

http://www.powerlandonline.com/product/PD3..._Powerland.html

I don't expect I will ever need to replace an original engine in a Wheel Horse in my lifetime,

but if your situation is different, check it out.

I have heard they are reliable. I guess the company that makes the parts for honda decide put the same parts together and sell them under a different name. I have heard the casting numbers are the same. These engines have been going around called honda clones. Go on youtube.com and search "honda clone". There are many videos. It's up to you, but nothing beats a nice kohler or B&S.
