Or am I barking up the wrong tree and just order from toro and bend over and get reamed $$$$$$$. hopefully I can get some help Thanks ERIK.

1257 super to Toro #83-2840 = CR 9835 for the axle seals.

1234 super to Toro #83-2830 = CR 7627 for the brake & input seals.

Beside your Toro dealer there are internet sites that can supply the axle seals. I have tried the interchange that is out there but, due to the design of the seal, it will not fit. I think the correct seal is around $17 no matter where you get it from. I use my local dealer whenever possible, what money he makes off me takes care of his business overhead and insures that he will be there the next time I have a emergency. :thumbs2: Mike

I also tried the CR seal cross ref. number and it's not the same seal. I also went to the local Kaman Bearing distributor and they couldn't find the correct one either. Trust me when I say spend the money and buy them from Toro. It's worth the extra money and you can be assured it's going to be correct :thumbs2:

Get in contact with Charlie Pitcher (The Clinton Specialist) He's got the seals and bushings in stock for the 5003, priced reasonably.

I just purchased a set of seals from Napa the other day. The parts are listed below.

Just make sure that you replace the four bronze bearings (two in the axle shaft tubes and two in the Cluster Gear body) if you are replacing the seals, otherwise it will leak anyway.

ID - WH P/N - Name - QTY - Notes

102 - 1234 - Oil Seal, Drive-Brake Shaft, 3/4" shaft x 1-5/8" OD - 2ea - Fits inside bearing Tube in front of bearing, replaced by Toro 83-2830, NAPA p/n CR7627

103 - 1257 - Oil Seal, Axle 1" shaft x 1-3/8" ID on Cup - 2ea - Fits over the end of the axle tube, replaced by Toro 83-2840, NAPA p/n CR9835

Mike,

Did the CR seals fit properly?

Has anyone installed a CR 9835 on a axle tube? The CR9835 seals that I have seen have a rolled edge on the inside. The original 1257 seal was machined on the ID to fit the axle tube OD. The later 83-2840 seal uses the same seal material on the ID for a better seal on the tube. Unless some of the CR9835 seals do not have the rolled edge and have the correct ID I see no way they would fit without leaking. I guess being from the Show Me State wants me to see it done. Mike

I just received the two seal sets yesterday and the other Mike is correct. Mine have the rolled inner edge as well. Apparently the design has changed or the seal information sheet is incorrect.

I just looked up seals by dimensions on the SKF site and it appears that the SKF 9814 is a better number than the CR9835. We'll see. I am going back to NAPA today with the old seals in-hand to see what they can come up with.

Just in case all else fails, I found this site: Seal 83-2840

UPDATE After fiddling around some more looking for the seals I got impatient, called MowPart to verify they had the Toro parts, and then ordered from them ..... We'll see.

Got my Napa seals installed today works great no leaks!! The CR-9835 did have a roll edge on the inside, so I chucked it in the lathe and took it down to .005 larger than the axle and it press right on nice and tight on axle tube. I thought For $18.00 from toro compared to $7.00 Napa(per seal)I would try the napa seals. Got to try to save money any were i can so I can keep doing this enjoy able hobby.
