  1. So last fall I got this Dynamark riding mower for free. Engine ran but when you stepped on the clutch/brake it wouldn't disengage. Looking at it I noticed it was a new drive belt. I figured PO got the wrong belt so I looked up what I thought would be the correct belt and ordered it. When it came I removed the belt that was on it and it looked to be the exact same size as the new one. Put new one on and same thing. That was an 82 inch belt. So I looked again and saw that a similar model had an 85 inch belt so I ordered one of those..... close but no cigar ! Now I ordered an 86 inch and are waiting for it. In the mean time I noticed water had gotten into the gas tank. The gas cap was the style with a gage but the bubble is busted off. Since the cap goes through the hood on top water leaks in. I need a new cap but having the same issues finding correct one. I don't need one with a gauge just one the screws on tight. Any help works be appreciated as I am finding multiple part numbers.
  2. New member ...and another old-Iron guy here...with my 1st Wheel Horse tractor. I was looking for something mainly for pulling an old aluminum boat (18' starcraft) around the property. Capability to mow and haul yard waste would be a bonus. 2 weeks ago, a C85 showed-up on CL for a song. He couldn't start it for me and it didn't take me long to figure out why... This will be a running thread / rolling-restoration as I bring her back to her original, Black-Hood glory! (DISCLAIMER: I'm an engine-wrencher ...I have the tendency to leave my foot off of the project's gas when the engine starts drinking it!)
  3. The last two weeks we have been splitting time between our new home in VA, and finishing the little to-do projects before going on the market with our MD house. Juno has been helping me navigate the drive! It must be the breed as she stood by my shoulder for looking out the windshield most of the way for the 181 mile trip. Mrs. Sailor has to drive by herself. Whittling the collection of tractors has been an interesting exercise. Different scenarios of equipment needed depended on which house would be our new one. Properties that we looked at ranged from 3-1/4 acres down to 0.4 acre, which is what we chose. After the choice was made in January, I have been divesting of the equipment that was used on our current wooded two acres. With only four trees compared to our grove of over 300, the log splitter, chainsaws, chipper/shredder, etc have been sold off. The primary tractors at the MD house have been my three 5xi. But I have decided that my three Black Hoods are better suited to the new house. Ironically the 1980 C-145 will become the primary mower at the new house - and the 1998 518xi will move on to another owner. The C-145 will receive a rebuilt engine and general refurbishment. In the meantime one of the other two Black Hoods will temporarily take over.
  4. Can any one tell me what this is, other than just a Wheel Horse? The identification badging is missing, unless I am missing where it may be. The engine is a 14 horse Kohler, it is a hydro (both drive and deck lift), but other than that I am not sure about year/ model/ type of hydro drive/ if the hydro drive is one I can tap into for other hydraulic attachments such as lifts (3 point), etc... Thank you in advance to all you WH guru's, Darren P.S.-Is there a good way to get the steering wheel off without breaking it as I have another good one on the machine next to it.

    Oddball C-161

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the black hoods like my C-161 shown below? I like it because it was my dad's and looks a bit sinister but from the hood to the headlight bezel to the twin Briggs, I just wonder why they built it. It's been a great machine. Dad bought it when it was a couple years old from a neighbor and it has had nothing done to it but regular maintenance, a little touch up to the paint, and a fresh set of decals. Even the tires are still in good shape with only a few cracks.
  6. I am re-doing my C-105 black Hood and I want to keep the hood from chipping the paint where it meet the dash. As you probably know, all this had when it was stock was a this rubber pad on the top of the dash. This helped protect the top of the dash, but didn't help the sides. The rubber pad that this had is pretty much worn out, so I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on what can be used to replace the top pad and how to treat the sides of the hood to protect it. Happy restoring to all! C-85
