6 pointsFigured I would start a thread for all of us headed to the big show this year. I started to load up the tractors on the trailer. I was just able to squeeze the trailer in the barn so the machines will be out of the weather until we head out. Post up pictures of your rigs as you start to head out to the big show 2018!!

5 points1976 c-120. Bought new by my grandfather Sam. I first drove it in 1993 at age of 8, inherited it in 2001. Still have it. Just had our first son in February. Named him Sam, here he is on his great grandfather's c120. I'm always on the lookout for a c-160

4 pointsMy first horse is a 65 mustang if I can count that. I still have it. A raider 10 was my first wheel horse about 5 years ago. 35.00 on a on line auction. My first restoration project that I still have. The start of my addiction. I have bought and sold a few others. The only other one I still have is a 79 c141 auto.

3 pointsNote the transmission drainage in the last post. After sitting for 22 hours that pan is almost full. Tonight's Leisure Time was spent cleaning up a few pieces. Removing 50 plus years of rust and somebody's poor green paint decision from the past. Brake linkage before: And after, with tie rods for bonus viewing: Worked on the hood Scraped a bit of muck off the frame and started wire brushing My honey's pants.... Her "good" jeans...

3 pointsI guess there's time to upload pictures, when you're literally watching paint dry! The hood has been layered with grey/black so I can do some more wet sanding when I skim the welded area. More stuff is colory. I used a hammered black paint for the wheels, so to tie things together the front hanging weight is hammered now too. A couple things to note about background articles: the race car is not mine. Many of the vehicles and machinery in the background are not mine either. But I did pick up this Scag Freedom Z 52" ZTR this week, to relieve the C-101 42" RD of the 3 acres to mow. It's the same color as Mrs. Pullstart's tractor, so it can't be all that bad, eh? 3 pointsMine was, and is a 1962 702 that my father-in-law bought used in 1965. It was used as a 4 season machine - cutting 1+ acres of grass, working in the 100 x 100 garden, and plowing snow around the home and business. He passed away in 1992, when I got it, it was pretty used up. Been working on it since, can't bring myself to lose the original patina & dents. Maybe just new decals. The first of my 5 Round Hoods ......... Bill

3 points2011, I was flush (first time in my life) with money from my deployment. We had bought 30 acres and I wanted a real garden tractor. I was actually looking for an old Sears ( because that's what dad had) when I came across my C-125. I was 31. Now, I have a few workers and more parts/project tractors. My "bucket list" attachments that I have yet to find are a FEL, mid mount grader and the generator.

3 pointsThe 418A is my favorite WH out of the dozen in my collection. I suspect that when the 520 and 518 were introduced for 1988, Wheel Horse felt that the 418 competed with it, so they discontinued the 418. It wasn't until 1991, when the variable ratio steering was introduced on the 520, that the 520 was really that much better than the 418A. Personally, I like the Kohler 18 twin better than the Onans. Easier to service, and parts more available. If I ever find a variable steering linkage, I'm going to put it on the 418A.

3 points1969 Work Horse 700 in 2000 when I was 10. It was given to me by my grandmother after my grandfather died. I still have and will have it until the day I'm put in the ground. I have a love hate relationship with Tecumseh engine in it though lol Next horse on the list is a C-160 auto once i get the cash to buy one. Mike

3 pointsYou can park it next to a tree and cut a 2x4 to length to wedge between the tree and steering column to get the support rmaynard is talking about.

3 pointsMy addiction started in 1960 at the age of 5 when my dad brought home a new Suburban 400. He went on to buy a new 704 and then a 1970 Raider 12. I got married in 1975 and bought a Suburban 551 and then a new 1976 B-80 which I converted to a C-160. A short time later we built a house and 46 x 56 pole barn on 26 acres and I accumulated about a dozen and more parts and attachments than many dealers. That was all well before the craziness hit. The move to Florida saw me selling everything and I was without a for a spell before finding a 2005 Classic GT with 100 hours in 2009. I found a Suburban 400 down there and restored it. Then I was given a 657 and a 500 Special that were really parts machines. I used both tractors to build a nice 500 Special. The move back home to Indiana saw those 3 tractors come with me and, much to my amazement, I re-aquired my 1976 that I had bought new. Those 4 won't be going anyplace until I'm no longer able to enjoy them. I'm hoping to find something that trips my trigger at the big show to bring home to join them.

3 pointsHello folks! New guy here. My Dad bought a new Wheel Horse Raider 10 on September 2, 1971. I drove that tractor many times as a teenager. I believe some of my Dad's best times were the times he was on his Wheel Horse. He loved that tractor! He used it to cut grass, plow his garden and drag trailers and boats around the yard. Dad passed away in 1995, and my older brother took possession of the tractor and did a complete restoration on it. He used it sparingly, and about 2 months ago, he asked me if I wanted it... Of course I did! Along with a plow, dozer blade, harrow and wheel weights, I was given a time capsule of information on this tractor. I even have an original newspaper ad for Wheel Horse tractors that lists about 10 local dealers. While in my brother's possession, the 10hp Tecumseh ignition went south, and he replaced the engine with a 14hp Tecumseh. This is one of the things I would have done differently, as now the tractor has a hole in the hood with a Bolens hood scoop... The good news is my brother completely rebuilt the 14hp engine and it runs great. He also gave me the original engine. Since I took possession, I have replaced the throttle and choke cables with the correct ones, and made a bracket to hold the cables and replaced and rerouted the fuel lines. I replaced the front tires and glass blasted the rims and repainted them. Three of the tires on the tractor were the original Wheel Horse branded tires. The rears are still original. I replaced the original seat, which was pretty ratty, and made some spacers to give me a little more leg room. I have plans to work on the fit of the hood, as it got a little warped on a wild ride down a steep hill at my Brother's house... I also plan to replace both rear hubs with some billet steel hubs I am making. The rear needs axle seals, and one hub has been welded up and looks really ugly... I am going to try to attach pictures... Let me know what you think. I know Dad would be proud to see his Horse still kicking!

2 pointsAnd alas, I started some chassis assembly! I have to be honest here... I see a lot of pictures similar to this, where someone posts a frame with a few parts bolted on. Not that exciting until you realize how much work goes into getting ready for that moment! I am proud of this pic, there's more time and effort (err... Coffee/Pabst/Coors) into this than I thought it might take! Heading to bed early tonight, 2am has been the norm since Sunday, still up around 6 or 6:30. Time to shut my eyes for more than a nap.

2 pointsSo I have done lots of small stuff to my hauler to git’r’done the way I like it. I’m almost finished. It gets a bullet bed Liner sprayed on Monday. buth last Thursday I got my wheels and tires (back ordered 8-10 weeks) in the interim a lift kit and dual steering stabilizer set up. The set set up I installed kept the stock springs and the tires have more load capacity that stock so it still rides awesome and I can still stow pretty much anything I want. As long as I am flush with cash. The power stroke is stout but thirsty compared to Rams. I get 9.8 towing fully loaded. I do love this thing though:-)

2 pointsWell, it seems things are always changing. I've got a few items to pick up at the show and now decided to sell the little 857 to help offset the costs along with a hotel bill for 5 nights so we can stay over a little while in Gettysburg. It runs great. I want to keep the seat that is on it, but can replace it with a one piece with no tears. I would sell as follows: Tractor and deck $450 or best offer Or Tractor only $375 or best offer.
-
2 pointsSo I have this 753 with a hydraulic lift and no attachments (other than a mower deck) to make use of the lift. I think it would be cool to get a set of wheel horse cultivators for it or a mid mount blade? I think I'll be on the prowl for something like that at the show to put on it!
-
2 pointsYour problem is probably in the fuse block. Pull it out and inspect it. If in doubt, replace it. Bad design. Water can get into it and cause lots of problems,

2 pointsIs this the key that you need? If it is they are available at TSC, WalMart, & most hardware stores. If you choose to install a new key switch you will need to look for one that has a " M " terminal on it instead of an " I " terminal.

2 pointsIn the summer of 2003 I was 27, and my soon-to-be-wife and I had just bought our first house when we came to the sudden conclusion we needed to mow! Since all funds were mostly going into the new house and our upcoming nuptials, I looked around and found a deal. Having grown up with mostly John Deere and Wheel Horse those were my focus. With some connections I managed to find a buy a freshly repainted 1968 Commando 8 for the low low price of 2 Benjamins. Served us well as a lawn mower for a couple years. Yes, it's still around and does some annual garden duty plowing and harrowing the garden at my parents' place back in IL at the moment. It will likely never leave, and will probably at some point get a full restoration and preservation. As for any tractors I'm looking for?.... no tractors at the moment. Have more than I can store in one place already. Mostly looking for oddball and rare attachments to add to the collection.

2 points6/14/18 Good Morning RedSquare! A perfect day to be preppin' for paint! I found great joy to find the draw marks in the round hood... from some 56 years ago. I'm going to try to skim my welds but as mentioned in the beginning, I'll be leaving some of the scars and bruises. This tractor has earned it just like we've earned ours. It's a story, it's a good time, it's hard work.

2 pointsGot a RJ59 in 1981 I was 26 it was free had a broken axle tube but it ran still have it plus 10 other Wheel Horse's

2 points520-H August 2009 and I was 44. It cost me $500. Came with a 60" deck and was an intermittent runner. That's when I came here and started to read old posts!! Still have it today, many have come since and some have left but not my first!! I would love to own a 420LSE or Super "C" Thank You Red Square!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 points1979 C-141 Automatic, traded for it July 2007. Then in August of that year, bought a 1998 314-8. Those are both long gone now, but I have a few others now, all pretty much older ones.
-
2 pointsMy first was/is a 1987 416-8 with FEL (got lucky). Bought in 2006 for about $1800.00 to move some earth and flatten the backyard. That's the one that started the obsession after searching around the net and finally landing here on RS. Never even heard of a Wheel Horse before that. Still have it and upgraded it with a backhoe attachment. After that, found me an RJ-58 which I still have. Many little round hoods have come an gone since. Still have 2 RJs, 400,401,654,855,416-8, 418-C and 1 custom.

2 pointsI had been trying to buy my neighbor's worn out 310-8. One day he came over and asked if I would be interested in a 314-8 that he found under a carport covered with a tarp at a friend's house. His friend told him what he wanted ($150.00) which I agreed to-sight unseen. Next thing I know my neighbor had borrowed a trailer and brought it to me! No battery and 3 flat tires but everything else was there and the sheet metal and paint were in excellent shape. 1996 model with 298 hours on the clock! I think it was 2013 when I got it so I would have been 52 and it will be the last tractor I get rid of. Somehow I now have 5 in addition to this one. Still not sure how that happened Growing up my dad's friend had a 1267 which we borrowed often and I would like to find a 1067 or 1267 one of these days.

2 points1972 Commando 800 , got it when my Dad died in 1991. Still have it but the motor died so it is a roller . Have 3 others.

2 points1973 12 Automatic, paid $200.00 and probably have around $250.00 in it for parts and repairs. Mostly deck the deck and electric clutch coil. Wouldn't give it up. Mowing for my Father-in-law using his newer John Deere D105. There is no comparison, the 45 year old Wheel Horse is hands down the best tractor I've ever used! Gary
-
2 pointsMine was a 68 Commando 8, paid $100 for it 4 years ago. I was 60 at that time, I'll probably never get rid of it, I put way to much into it. It's way to hard to get rid of any of them,. I have 5 at the moment.

2 pointsThe most important thing is that when you are tapping the pin out with a roll pin punch and hammer, that you have a solid, unmovable object behind it acting as an anvil. If the steering wheel or shaft moves even the slightest, the power of the punch is reduced to almost nothing and the pin won't move.

1 point6/13 pics... we got chicks yesterday, the coop isn't finished but it's weather proof and critter-tight for now. Since I made the support for the exhaust, I figured I'd build a couple little set screws to keep everything from rotating. I understand that's quite a bit of mass to keep upright for a 13 hour journey... give or take. Got the hood stripped fairly well, time for some elbow grease and wet sanding.
