First mowing at the lake and as usual the little commando performed magnificently. Amazing how this 50 year old rear discharge deck still cuts like new. Love love love my Wheel Horse.

Hello everyone. I had to sell my C85 a while ago and had not found another Wheelhorse to ad to the fleet till yesterday. I found a fellow giving away a Murray tractor, got it for our flip hobby. While there the guy asked if I'd be interested in a Wheelhorse. Told him lets see it. He moves a tractor to show a D-180! I never saw one in person and it is impressive! He has a ton of attachments for it as well, snowplow, roto tiller a rock rake and guess a rear plow, wheel weights and chains and spare tires! He says make me a offer and I have no idea and don't want to tick him off. I ask him what he would take and he says $500! I told him I can get $450 cash today and he said sure! Going this morning to get it. It doesn't run right now but hoping a fresh battery and fuel will get it to move. Going to be fun loading it as it sure looks heavy. I can't do much anymore with three herniated discs so hoping the fellows skid steer will do it!

One of the bigger projects that my honey and I are working on this year is creating a trail that goes into the forest that we can use for hiking, jogging, mountain biking, and to get the tractor and logging trailer and splitter out where we can harvest wood. We worked on our bridge going over the little stream in the forest today. We are using a combination of forest logs, and very large pallets, and some boards I got from work when they took some shelves down. Today we used the B80 and a yard trailer to haul the boards and tools down to the bridge site. It's about 400 ft plus or minus into the woods. This is about halfway through the process. The farthest pallet out is sitting about a third of the way onto the pallet in the middle. The first section is the bridge that my honey built by hand. Two logs laid down on the forest floor and then the other boards nailed on top of it. This pic is taken from the opposite end of the one above. After we rolled it out of place and I dug the end in so that it would sit level. You can see how we are adding boards in between the existing pallet boards. Just a few more to go and we'll be able to drive the tractor across.

I can’t stress enough the importance of a shiny plowshare and moldboard. If you have a rusty one, you should take some time with a sanding device to polish it up some. Then maintain it. Don’t ever leave a polished plow out in the elements, I personally rub grease or heavyweight oil over mine if they will be stored for a period of time. A rusty plow is a sticky plow, and a sticky plow doesn’t turn the soil well. As as far as “being a rookie” we all started sometime at everything we do. I’ve been plowing for awhile but I still learn new tricks and tips nearly every season—either by experience or by education from my fellow plow dogs. I’m just glad that yet another guy is getting into turning earth! It takes some patience and guidance to get it down pat but stick with it and you’ll be “plowing like a pro” in no time. It’s hard to explain those days in the furrows where the tractor is running good, the plow is scouring great, soil conditions are near perfect, and the weather is comfortable—when you get to experience that, you’ll be hooked for good!

Put the deck back on it and was riding it around today for the first time. I think I am hooked already on the sound of the twin Onan. It is definitely going to be a learning process for me. This is very different from everything else I have. The engine is a bit intimidating to me since I really know nothing about it. I can already see that forgiveness in going to be a long process . Permission was just out of the question, would never get it. And unfortunately I could not just "sneak it in" like many of the others. First of all I had to move all the others to find a nice cozy spot for this one, that already drew a lot of attention, and then this bad boy sticks out like a sore thumb since it is so big and shiny. Incredibly she even noticed that it does not sound like the others.I was doomed from the beginning.

Hello Horse fans! I took PeacemakerJacks advice about Valspar and after some searching, I finally got a gallon of paint and 2 cans of hardener from Farm and Fleet of all places. Not bad for $30.00. Now for sandblasting, Scotchbrite, and patience. Thank you Peacemaker!!

I will be bringing a commando 8 roller to the show. The tins are all very nice and it has original paint. Would be a great canadate to wet sand. All of the major parts are there. The seat is in decent condition but does have a few small tears. Has original wheel horse rubber on the rear. $75 takes it. Even include original barn dust Also includes the belt guard. SOLD!!!

I personally think that’s a bit steep for something you can’t test. Imagine dropping $475 of your hard earned dollars to find the motor smokes like a freight train and the hydro tranny is shot. And if that was the case it would tough to part out in an attempt to get your investment back. Very risky in my book at that price point.

Opened up parts including some new lights. Painted my Sickle Bar Mower Front Assembly box cover plate, plain Ted rear hitch pin Cub yellow, painted two sawtooth tires with M. E. Miller tire paint, and changed from wheels on my new RJ tractor! All and all a good day and 65 plus degrees in Greencastle, Indiana today! Relaxing now!

After deciding I had enough Wheel horses (under duress from wife) I just could not resist and acquired this beauty with 147 hours from a member. With it there is a 48" deck and a 44" two stage blower all in the same condition as tractor. Of course all original paper work included. I had already also acquired a snow cab intended for it. As I left he asked me if there was anything else I was looking for. The only thing I could think of was " A nice place to stay?"

Thanks guys! I did download owners manual and saw tow valve. We had heck of a time loading as guys skid steer wouldnt start. Had to struggle to load tractor as it wouldnt fire or crank with key there. Turned out we flooded it there and safety switches stuck. Once home we cleaned plugs and it fired and ran great! Huge mouse nest in tins so kept it short. Turned bypass back after it sat and restarted it. The hydraulics work and it moves. The tiller was packed with hay and took a hour to clear. Had to remove it to load the tractor. Plans are to clean it tommorrow and replace fuel line and tank shut off.

Thanks for the great insight. I bought my plow used and you can tell it was stored outside. I thoroughly clean it after use and I oil it before I store it inside. I don’t have it shiny so that will be my next project. Thanks again.

I'd be interested in a 704. That's the second tractor my dad purchased new. He had purchased a Suburban 400 new and it only took us boys 4 years of 'speed shifting' to make it start popping out of third gear. I've got one of those and i thought it would be cool to add a 704.
  23. 3 points
Thanks. My plow doesn’t always seems to want to turn over the dirt fully so I thought more speed might throw it over a little better. I’m definitely a rookie and still learning.

@cschannuth I rarely have ever plowed in 3rd gear just simply because most of our soils around here are too heavy for that. I agree with Dick in that conditions will dictate. Last fall I went to my uncles and was plowing in one of his soybean fields on a Saturday evening. The moisture content in the soil was perfect and the plowing was really good. I had other obligations and could only plow for an hour or so. The next day was sunday and I was excited to plow for several hours in the afternoon however it was sunny and breezy all morning and by the afternoon the soil had dried enough that I could barely keep the plow in the ground! Jim, by contrast, has very sandy soil and I found that I needed to plow in second or my tractor would tend to spin out. Second gear kept the tractor moving enough where it was grabbing fresh hunks of sod with the land side tire and giving me the much needed traction. Short answer: I usually plow in hi range 1st or 2nd. If it will plow good in 2nd I keep it there, if the plow won’t stay in the ground I try 1st. If I know I have good adjustments on the plow and it still won’t stay in—I know the soil is too tough to plow on that day with my GT.

Agreed Tom ....gonna get one for the 753. This is just something I picked up last minute at Fleet Farm when I got near to the end of the refresh and realized all I had was a pepper pot never giving second thought to an exhaust. After seat time still not sure of the looks ( too tall?) but love the sound! 1 1/4 straight through with what I call a "church key" baffle ... like we used to run on our iron barreled Sportsters with drag pipes. Gave the cop something to thud his nightstick against when asked if we had mufflers.

Seems you may have identified your own answer, the rod in the second photo you need to move the pivot point of you lift link back to the hole where the bit of rust can be seen. You are not able to latch the deck up because you are attempting to lift it too high.

Title is just the title of your post - the topic, question etc. that you want to post. Post your question in the transmissions section with a title that people will know what its about. You are in the right place for info on Wheel Horses - you will get good advice and direction... Tags are just search words that if someone searches for that word it will pop up in the search. You don't need to use any tags. Hope that helps!

Hi, I wrtte from Spain. First thing excuse my english wrtting faults. One year ago I bught a 312-8, I am not mechanically oriented so I bring the WH in general mechanical workshop. One year working without much troubles in my horse property, very usefull, and very happy with it. But one wekk ago something was wrong when I started, first click sound ok but at the second try of starting no the everyday familiar sound only a zzzzmmmmm. My nearest machanical shop guy came and tol to me the starter had "explode". Well , the point is how can a I get a new or old but "in shape" starter, i don´t know the number a Kohler distributor in Spain asked me for. There is no number around the ttractor, nowhere. Help please.

With any electrical problem the first thing you need to do is have the battery load tested, auto parts stores do it for free. Next, clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds. Don't buy any new parts or change anything until you have done these things.

Ground conditions will tell you if you are too fast or slow. Depending on compaction and moisture content, soil type etc. you may need to alter your speed on any given day.

@cschannuth yes I got one on my C160 and it's works very good. I've got another one I'm going to try on my 314 as soon as this cold weather Ever leaves Michigan.

The Champion H-10 is correct, would be a short thread and should be gaped at .025" for a Magnum. The carburetor may be running a little too rich fouling the plug.
