6 pointsNow for the fun part. From what I gather, steering wheel removal is an unspoken Rite of RedSquare Passage. I couldn't deal with using penetrant without any heat. So I flipped the console so I could heat the steering shaft (within reason...stop when the oil starts to smoke)... this seems bass-ackwards but i convinced myself that will heat the wheel ring which will cool slower than the shaft. after a week of mild heating / soaking... KABOOM on the press it's these little victories that keep these projects fun! There's a great tutorial right here on RS by MikesRJ for restoring the control panel. But before I start, I need to remove the warp from the plastic... I watched a few u-tube vids on flattening plastic with a heatgun... I'll try this from the backside and let you know how it goes. thanks for stopping by the thread!

5 pointsI was able to get those stingy throttle / choke knobs off without any hurt feelings... the trick was carefully (!) kissing the metal with a torch (protecting the plastic with a plumbing flame pad), I was able to pull & separate the assembly. ^^^ those suckas were on there tight! map was obviously overkill...propane or even butane would be a little more appropriate ...but a win is a win AMIRIGHT???!

5 pointsVery interesting story there, thanks for passing it along. Here are some from central Georgia, I know one was made from a Cub hydro, not sure of the other.

4 pointsI had one that did that. I fixed it by driving out the roll pins 28 29 removed the lever and cross shaft 21 and bent the lever so it would put more tension on it

3 pointsGot a new seat cover and foam pad for my L107 today from Bob Ellison. Beautiful workmanship...but there is a problem. i am not sure I want to install it. My father bought her new in 1967 and she has been busy ever since. She is my year round chore tractor and frankly my britches are not always that clean when I sit on her. This cover is so nice I am not sure I want to get it dirty. The other half was very impressed, she made a replacement cover about 20-25 year ago (not nearly as nice) but is is coming apart and more brown than white.

3 pointsPurple should be 12 volts to the rectifier/regulator if you have this type of charging system. White should be mag kill wire. I have ran mine on a bench with it hooked to nothing. 12v to the starter, white to shut it off. Here is a link to the manual, if you don’t already have it. https://power.kohler.com/na-en/engines/manuals

3 pointsYou got it to use it... my bet is it gets all patina-ed up, and matches the tractor in no time.
-
3 pointsAs a temporary fix, I have used a rubber bungee to pull the lever tight and keep the pin in the hole.

3 pointsMy grandmother had one of those covers on the front seat of her big ass Chrysler Imperial, when she would take us to the beach all five of us road in the back seat. Nobody ever called shotgun.

3 pointsI tried the blower this afternoon, but switched to the plow after I got a couple clogs that totally clogged and locked up the auger. Got 6 hours of seat time clearing 5 driveways and mailboxes.

2 pointsMy nephew with his new buddy “Tractor Mac Jr.” From the look on his face I think he is hooked on Garden tractors.

2 pointsIt was supposed to transition to rain by 1pm here. Still snowing! More wrecks on I81 than the emergency officials can handle. I'm done! Just drove home from Dad's and what was slush early in the day is now turning to ice under new snow. I want warm weather!!!
-
2 pointsI grew up in Michigan -- yeah, the whipsaw warm-ups and freezes in the spring confuse the heck out of insects. No pity for wasps and hornets, though. Those things are a menace. My "favorite" (not!) thing was lake effect snow. Weather forecast is for "partly cloudy." Then the wind whips up across the lake overnight, and in the morning you're clearing a foot of "partly cloudy" off the driveway.

2 pointsI've heard of tractors being clean enough to eat off of but never expected to see it taken to this extreme!

2 pointsYou can run this engine on the bench with no wires connected to anything. Just touch the starter with 12 volts from a battery or charger and it will run if it is able. To kill it just pull the plug wire and you will have no worries about possible damage to any components. ezy peezy.

2 pointsI realised during a bit of idle browsing last night that the three fuses changed values (or at least the values mentioned in the WH docs changed) Does anyone know why? Pre-1990, the fuses are 30A Starter Solenoid 20A on the red battery supply to the ignition 10A on the pink ignition supply to the loom but from 1990 onwards they are 30A Starter Solenoid 25A on the red battery supply to the ignition 15A on the pink ignition supply to the loom We may as well just call the electrical section the '520H section' and be done with it...

2 pointsAnother diagram note the colors are different. If there is a voltage regulator on the front of the air shroud check the color of the center wire it should match one of the ones in your plug. The other is eh Mag kill

2 points@Ed KennellGreat observation with the rubber bumpers, the actuator has built in limit switches for when the actuator if fully retracted or fully extended. I did add a limit switch for when I extend the actuator out because the actuator stroke is 6 inches and I only use probably 4-5 inches. The limit switch is set to stop the actuator just as the rubber bumpers touch the axle.

2 pointsCarb all refitted now and a new manifold gaskit. It took a bit of encouragement to get it going but once running and tuned in it runs real sweet. Had it running for half an hour with no missfires or smoke so I'm pleased with that and its restarts easy.
-
2 pointsMine runs with the brake on and off. If yours stops when you push the brake, I would think there is a short to ground in the switch.

2 pointsI got this. Problem solved. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Do some work. Change britches. Move tractor. Repeat as needed. ... Now, this may slow your processes down a bit and likely create more loads of laundry to do... But !! The new seat cover should stay cleaner, longer.

2 pointsI personally think Bob will be very pleased with your appreciation of his magnificent work on the seat he made for you. I also think that the seat cover has a purpose, use it with joy and thankfulness for its intended reason. In other words, enjoy it.

2 pointsAn "old timer" sold an AC "G" several years ago and said he wished he had a dozen of them for sale, as he made a bundle in it! We have an old AC dealer here in town...of course there aren't any new AC's but still see some on their lot once in a while. Still lots of them out in the country area.

2 pointsGetting closer!! I just put an elbow on the exhaust for now. Just gotta figure out how to get her to charge, although she didn't charge when she was in the charger(lol, irony) either. Gotta check the voltage regulator and the stator, and I gotta see if everything should work with the briggs wiring, I dont really see many differences, though.

1 pointI was planning on using the old carb instead of the one that came with my engine kit, but when i tore it down today i found it was damaged so i will give the new one a try. Im a little skeptical about how well a cheap carb will perform, but i will give it a chance. Motor is in! This thing is starting to look like a tractor again! I used some bondo to fill the holes in the bottom of the shroud. Still need a fuel pump rebuild kit and exhaust but im close. I want to use a stack if anyone has any suggestions I also picked up a fuse block and starter solenoid. Might try to put them in if i can find a spot when i start to rewire everything.
