...for our 2nd Nor'easter, in less than a week, tomorrow... ...I see hope, in the first sightings our crocus, tulips, daffodils, and Iris spring flowers emerging... which, to me, signal the end of another grueling snow removal season. Thank you Jesus...it's almost over.

I'm with ya, all this practice, I'm becoming an expert at it ....Oh Joy, More WH seat time, in the snow, and wind, and cold......and the mud underneath, I really love the mud underneath the snow. (wow, I posted my first picture, that's scary )

Appears that Lady Liberty is ready... Why the shovel and not a with a plow you may ask? Well - she is not a member of RS yet... you see, The Federal Government has not approved her request for wifi, so She does not have good cell service and therefore can't get the outstanding advice RS members provide in times like these...and since the National Park Service (NPS) does not allow purchases of used lawn tractors, she can't get approval for a either... hence NPS purchased a new hand shovel at the rock bottom no-bid price of $1,200,000 for this next storm...

Well, I'm having coyote problems on the farm. One howled at me a couple of weekends ago from about 30 yards above me on a ridge. Now, I'm trying to trap them with steel traps. Boogers are pretty sharp - they've robbed one of my sets about 4 nights and tripped the trap twice and no luck catching them. Anyway, Emory rode his blackhood with me to check them today. He had a blast (he gets a little serious as you can see by the look on his face). He's a little too light to get traction real well on uneven ground. I found a set of nos Trac weights on fleabay for only about $44 shipped. They look to have never even been filled. Hopefully it will help him go a little better!

Thanks to everyone for all your complimentery comments! I will take a couple of more pictures this weekend and post them. I have a few from during the build I put up now, one of the engine when I pulled it out and two of the broken cast iron steering support. I was going to weld the old one, even though I hate to weld cast. So, instead I decided to weld up a new one out of steel The rear tires are NanKangs.

I'm starting to think maybe Richard isn't really a collector. Seems to me we might see him on tv soon on the hoarders show. Maybe an intervention is needed before all of the 953's and 1054's disappear! I'm only about 3 hours away, anybody want to join me? I know this obsession can become too much - my sheds runneth over and I'm looking for the next. Wait, who's that in my yard with tv cameras? Gotta run before they see the sheds!

Come get my 1054 for $350.00 I Only use it as a flower planter.Pretty much complete.Don't know anything else about it.

Well, I guess as the saying goes, nothing is easy, at least not for me anyway. Made my trek yesterday to the local Fastenal to pick up the dog point set screw for the shifter. Naturally, not in stock and the guy checked other inventories & couldn't find anything closer than Cincinnati, OH that has one in stock. Here's the kicker, he said he can order one for $1.45, PLUS approx. $8.00 for shipping! I refused to do that just out of principal for something that could be thrown in an envelope with a 50 cent stamp. So being one for improvising, I went to the local big box store, bought a pack of (2) 1/4"-20 x 3/4 set screws which were made of stainless steel none the less for 98 cents & figured I can turn the point down on the lathe. Now for the really, really BAD news (for me anyway). I fire up the lathe & hear this awful growling noise coming from the motor & notice it wasn't spinning the drive. Turns out the motor shaft key had spun out of the motor armature shaft and totally destroyed the lathe motor shaft. So here I am deep into this project, with no lathe to do some of the fabrication that I had planned, at least until I can rectify this lathe motor situation. It's a 1 HP single phase reversible electric motor so they aren't exactly cheap. It could probably be repaired if I knew someone that was good with a tig welder, and be able to turn the shaft back down & mill a keyway. That would probably cost more than a new motor though at a regular machine shop, unless I could find someone that just does this as a hobby & wouldn't charge an arm and a leg. I'd be more than willing to buy the beer !! Anybody out there know anyone like that, or have any resources or suggestions? Short of that, it's new motor time, but that puts an awful unexpected dent into the Wheel Horse project funds. Anyway, in order just to finish this set screw part of the project, I did figure out a way to improvise once again to make the dog point. What I did was chuck the regular set screw in my cordless drill and spun the thing on the grinder basically machining the point by hand. It actually worked very well & rather than turning it down to the original diameter of the broken piece, I left it at about .008" oversize to take out some of the shifter slop. Here are a couple of pics:

NO ..... I think this pic is all smoke and mirrors. You all know how good Craig is at photoshopping. I don’t think we’ll ever see the inside of the “Magic Shed” . That’s top secret West Point stuff there.

I was at work today and a snowblower that looked familiar to me was l@@king at me from behind a garage. The home owner came out of his house and we started chatting. I asked him if that was a wheel horse snowblower. He said yes I asked him if he wanted to sell it. We went behind the garage and it was attached to a Toro H520. He said if I wanted it I could have it. Said it ran a year ago but I have my doubts. Any how I think I can harvest some parts off it. I have older modle wheel horse's 71 and 73. I cant find a modle number on it so i have no idea what year it would be. Anyone have a idea? Also is there a bypass for the pump somewhere so I don't ruen the pump pushing it around not running?

Just south of Allentown. PA. Seat time yes but isn't it best to mow 'd lawn? Wheel weights and chains, on. Guess schools will be closed? Grandsons will be on the phone this evening. Bet me! They "require" seat time. What's that all about? Isn't it best to bait hooks at the lake? Eat a fresh strawberry you just picked? A cold brew on the patio? Plant sprouts just cleared from last weeks nor-easter. What's with that? Daylight Savings Time, starts this Sunday. Faster meltdown? Get your sun burn lotion ready, next year?

They can be a pain to put on and good thing Terry is good about sending out another but yes no bare metal. I layed down a base coat of self etching primer with a couple of top coats to fill in imperfections with some sanding. Pretty much then like Terry showed in his thread. Another word of caution when reinstalling the choke and throttle cables DO NOT rely on the D shaped holes to keep the bases from spinning. If they spin while tightening the backside nuts it will wrinkle the decal. Same goes for even the dash screws ...use a small fiber washer he mentioned.

Nope, Coyote is doing great and Emory is loving its brother Roadrunner! The coyotes I'm having trouble with are the four legged kind. Really starting to dislike those critters! Wiley sure does describe them. I've been wanting to get a few goats to keep some areas clean, but not until the coyotes are gone. They downed and killed a calf for a neighbor 2 weeks ago. Richard, I hadn't thought of that. Something to consider. It'll probably get at least the weights now. Maybe the 22hp Predator is a little bit much power. At this rate he'll have slicks on the back by showtime!

It really is a simple fix, something that just about anyone could utilize at some point & not requiring lathes or any expensive special equipment. Naturally not the most precise, but for a pin like this, perfect solution.

I spent a few minutes two or three different times over the last week or so messing around with getting the seat off and trying to figure out what in the name of holy tractor one of the previous owners did to what remains of the bird nest that some might call a wiring harness. The seat is now cleaned up a bit and my honey has decided she wants to use the baby body grinder to grind the rust off and then we're going to repaint it and recover the existing seat with Marine vinyl and some new foam. More seat covering pictures as that progresses. I didn't get any pictures of the wiring harness but you could use your own imagination. Go to your parts pile. Grab all the wires you can get with one hand. Shake them around a bit and throw them in your nearest tractor. That's about what it was like. I finally decided that no one in their right mind would try to figure out what was in there. I removed ALL the wiring except for the black lead going to the coil plus side. Last night and the night before I installed a 103 990 ignition switch and begin rebuilding the harness a bit.

All these compliments are going to go to your Head and you won't feel right... Ok, Ok so maybe, just maybe the tractor looks real nice and the colors look really trick.... but you didn't polish the shaft at the top of the implement lift. How can you post pictures and not POLISH the top of the implement lift. I'd be embarrassed to do that..... I mean, there must be a whole 1-3/4 " of UNPOLISHED shaft showing for god's sake. You probably noticed all the mean nasty comments you've gotten so far, that's the way it is on this forum. They won't help, compliment or tell you anything, mean miserable bunch of people here...... (I was told , when I first joined the forum, not to say too much nice about this place as they don't want it to get out there for the general public to know. I've been trying ever since to do that but it doesn't seem to be helping)... The tractor looks awesome NJTOM, You'll fit right in here. (I won't tell anybody about the unpolished Implement lift shaft) Welcome to the forum

Well here goes My neighbor Tony and I each have a couple of tractors that we put together with spare parts off other junk tractors to use strictly for off road fun. Neither one of us would take a good Wheel Horse and treat it this way. That being said this is the story.... We set off into the woods to "cruise" the over 1 mile of trail be have blazed for tractor riding. As usual we start off just riding about but soon we find ourselves lookin fer mud. The mud holes were kinda dry so we ended up at a small pond about a 1/4 mile into the woods. The pond is about 40'-50' across and I dont know how deep. Its dark and mucky so we are not able to see the bottom. I decided to just drive around the edge in the water but not into the center of the pond but only 6 feet into my run it got deep and dropped off quickly so I threw my tractor(GT1142 Wheel Horse Workhorse) into reverse and she went back about 2 feet and got good and stuck. We always bring a tow strap or two so we hooked up Tony's tractor("71" Wheel Horse 800 with a pull start Briggs 7hp) to mine and she popped right out. Tony then states that he "can do what I couldnt do" and launches into the pond with all the speed he could muster and got about 2 feet farther than me but sank real deep with the front wheels dissappearing into the deep murky water(kinda sounds like a murder novel dont it?). The intake was right at water level so he shut her down but not before it took in some water. We had to use two tow straps to get the needed length to get from his tractor to mine on dry land. It took some serious yanking to get it to even begin to move as I think the muck was holding it like a big suction cup, but eventually it broke free from its muddy grip. As it came out is didnt folow the same path that he took to get in and it puled up against a tree and since I was looking forward and couldnt hear him yellin over the roar of my Briggs 11hp his tractor flipped on its side. The carb side to be exact. It finaly came up on shore and we flipped it again to let the water drain outa the carb and then Tony gave it a few yanks to see if it would start and on the 3rd or 4th yank the pull start rope snapped. Now we knew it was gonna be towed all the way home. When we came to a straight away while towin I popped it into 3rd gear and he dumped the clutch on his while also in 3rd gear and the motor started to turn over and after about 200' of 3rd gear full speed towin she fired up!! So his tractor will live to go on another cruise. Dont try this at home kids...... Mike...next year I'll grow up .....I promise

I'm not sure I'm understanding here. Are you saying the 'rock shaft' isn't moving with the lift arm? If that's the case it's a broken weld. The rock shaft and lift arm are a welded assembly.

A wire wheel on her angle grinder... will make short work of that surface rust Eric. Just make sure to double up on your eye protection(safety glasses, full face shield)... and have her cover any exposed skin before she starts.

Well what sucks is that my screen froze and then when it came back, it said listing had been removed. Then after the auction was over, i went back using my saved favorite and it came back up but sold for $255.00. I may smell a shady deal behind the scenes😎 or I just need a shower. I already had made arrangements for storage and was going to get it in june. Oh well. Just more to spend on skittles.

This was brought up to me recently...can't believe it took place almost 11 years ago. Feels like it was yesterday 🤔 . Neither Tony nor I still have the tractors in this thread. I still have one that is "woods rated" if I feel the need to explore. Good times!!

Excellent. Thanks for the info! They updated the storm totals for my area....7 to 11" possible. I'm going to hit it at two points because the temps look warm, so I don't want to worry about having issues throwing 11" of wet snow. Does anyone else get excited for snow JUST so they can play with their Wheel Horse!? haha
