My next door neighbor (retired engineer) had one of those rear engined professional Gravely's. He was trying to drag a large crate he built (did I say he was a retired engineer? ) full of junk to the side of the road. He got about 4 feet and stopped. All he could do was pop wheelies as that crate dug in. I heard him banging his snowplow blade on his driveway everytime the front end came down. I told him to stop before he got hurt or wrecked something. (did I mention he's a retired engineer?) I came back with my Power King and had him unhook his "toy" . Latched on to the crate put it in first and at idle I dragged that crate to the road. His jaw was on the ground. He has since sold the Gravely and now is into solar panels to recharge his cordless tools.

Picked up another GT-14 today! Not in too bad of shape other then the previous owner hacked up the wiring quite a bit. I am in need of a wiring diagram to completely redo it. Currently I can get it to crank over but no spark

Just brought her home an hour ago! Ran it through the paces and everything checks out! Now shes coming in the shop to get a good tune up, the Bolens plow taken off and replaced, fluids change, some rewiring, a motor cleaning and a couple of new gaskets, and a good carb cleaning. And maybe some fuel lines. 😁 This is my first hydro so its taking some getting used too. LOVE the hydraulic lift though! Dont know how I lasted this long without one!

I was able to get the sheet metal sprayed today. Jim @WHX14 stopped by to help with some wet sanding & get some observation time in on the painting. Always great to hang out with friends like Jim, hopefully I was an ok teacher for him. I should have taken some in process pics of the wet sanding process, sorry. I had sprayed a mist coat of flat black ( cheap $.98 spray bomb from Wal-Mart) over the gray primer, this helps greatly when wet sanding. When the black paint is sanded off the the part has been completely sanded. Jim got a pic of the parts after they were wet sanded with 400grit, washed with preps all, tacked off and ready for paint. Apparently he also was able to get an action shot of me spraying. Of course safety equipment is a must when spraying paint. Plus it helps cover ones face so that cameras are not damaged. A couple pics after the sheet metal was painted. 2 coats of paint on the inside of the parts, 3 coats on the out side. A closer pic of the hood to show off the gloss of the VanSickle acrylic enamel paint. This pic was taken about a hour after painting. Decals also came in this week, Terry @Vinylguy does such great work. I can't wait until I'm ready to put the decals on the tractor. I was able to put the finishing touches on my plow though. One more color to spray, then I can start putting things together. No wait, I have some axle repair to do yet.

Pretty nice 16g on CL, pricey, cool looking rear picture. If I could justify the cost I might take a shot of having one.

Well since my serial number was non existent and you could just barely read the model number, I figured I would make a new one. You wheel horse gurus will notice the serial number is all wrong. Well since my Dad got me into this hobby, I used his birthday for my serial number. I ordered a new tag decal from Terry and made a new tag from 1/16” steel plate. My son had it powdercoated at work and this is what it came out like. Terry’s decals are top notch. Can’t say it enough.

Still snowing and blowing way too soon to start snow flake relocation activities. Horses have some work ahead of them. Opened the door on the shop where they are and saw this. The gray thing is the tip of my yardstick. (I actually had to pull it up an inch so it would show)

Years back I purchased several nos triggers. I keep them only for the purest who wants a 100% original engine. All others I convert to the point system. Very reliable. Not that the triggers were bad. They weren’t. Just a high dollar part now. Miller is a talented guy with good parts. If you don’t convert to points I would recommend you talk to him.

Funny you should ask Josh! I do! Im just now putting the final touches on her! All I have left is drilling holes in the straight pipe to baffle the sound and slow the air down coming back in, hook up the LED mini bar and fit the headlight cover back on, adjust the governor, hook up the backup light, and time the ignition one more time. She hums beautifully in idle but shes breaking up pretty good when I throttle up. I'm a little concerned actually. I dont think the ignition timing is far off at all. Maybe a 1/4" from the S mark on the flywheel when the points crack. Ive had worse than that and barely noticed a problem. Nut? Sarge? Any idears? Heres a few pics recently. Remember, I wasnt doing a restore, this is my cutting tractor so its made for my needs but pretty. LOL Ag tires arent on in these pics either. And the rims arent painted yet. Add that to my todo list. Its a push button start because of the motor swap. Went from a Lauson (Tecumseh) 10 with SS Ignition over to a K181. I hated the SS ignition. I added a 12v power source (cig lighter), and used the solenoid off the Commando 8. I just picked up a new baby today to play with. Look for a new post on that one.

Squonk I know what your talking about. I've been to 3 Doctors in 9 years and now I'm seeing the head DR at U OF M Hospital and she's good. I've had plantar fasciitis for 25 years. The only thing that helped my foot was very good shoes. Rockport's where the best but then I bought a bad pair of cheaper shoes early last year and that's when it started. I damaged the tendons in my heel. My Dr said only rest will heal it. She also said no surgery will help it and it could do more damage to it. She's a very good Doctor. She told me if I don't stay off it she would put me in a cast. The cast won't help but I'll bet you'll stay off it then.

The horse is, for sure, a 1962...the 4 digit (9616) number after 62- makes it that. It started life as a 702 or a 552...not a 502. Other then what the other guys are noticing...the front tires look original, but the 1962's came with the square pan seat...not the round one. That horse looks to be in good shape.

Hey guys, I logged on yesterday for the first time in several months and was inspired by Dells68 and Crazywheelhorseman to post my find from last summer. Short story: I bought an 876 off of craigslist a couple weeks after coming home from the WHCC show last year. My 1st child came a little early, so I stuck the tractor in the shed and haven’t touched it since. Don’t have plans to touch it for now, but I’m glad I bought it! Long story: I went to the wheel horse show in PA last year and managed to hold off on buying a short frame that I was really jonesing for. There were several there, but Richard’s 857 with the dual wheels was really calling my name. Anyways, I held off because my wife was about 7.5 months pregnant and it wasn’t the responsible thing to do. After all, this was going to be my last WHCC show for a little bit, and I had already sold my other 3 short frames and a gravely walk behind in the spirit “growing up”. Well folks, It only took 2 weeks. While surfing craigslist on my lunch break an ad popped up for an 876 in Richmond, VA. There were no pictures, but it said that it had original paint and ran when it was last parked in the storage shed 10 years ago. The only implement it came with was a disc set. Not sure what brand it was. The price was $225 for everything, so I figured that was good enough to take the gamble. I checked the oil and tightened the alternator belt on the ol’ horse hauler (1984 toyota pickup) and headed north…well started to head north….I didn’t get but about 2 miles down the road and noticed the truck was running a little hot. What? How could this be? It’s a Toyota, that’s not supposed to happen. I thought, eh, “It’s all highway, I’m sure it will be fine.” Stupid. This is what happens when you have your mind set on a wheel horse. I mean, I’ve built a couple different chevy motors for my project vehicles. I work at a transmission manufacturer. I’m not new when it comes to motors/cars/maintenance. And when it comes to overheating, I knew with all of my being that it should be addressed very soon. bad bad things might result if an over heating problem is not addressed SOON. Clearly, I was not thinking rationally. So anyways, like I said, I headed north. It was an uneventful 2.5 hour trip up there until I got off on the exit where the WH was located. The temperature needle creeped closer and closer to the red line and as soon as I pulled into the guys neighborhood I cut the engine and coasted to his driveway. I thought, no big deal, I’ll get this thing and head home. I was there for literally 30 seconds and the guy starts wheeling the tractor to my truck…whoa whoa whoa…wait a second, let me at least pop the hood before we load it up. It definitely was not what I imagined. The seat was torn, the choke and throttle cables were frozen, it didn't run (which I knew going up there), fluid was leaking from the axles, and to top it all off, one of the sidewalls on the rear tire blew as he was rolling it towards my truck. After talking for a few minutes, it was clear that he wasn’t coming much off the price. More worried about actually making it home, I decided to just pay him and get the heck out of there. The truck started fine, and I was able to get on the highway before it got into the red. I plugged in my address (well, what I thought was my address) and headed….north… Fortunately, because I’m so smart, I realized that I was driving north. Now I’m not the brightest cookie in the jar, but I know that if I had just driven 2.5 hours north, I needed to at least go 2.5 hours south. After realizing the GPS was going to my exact address, just in a different state, I corrected the issue and turned towards home. About the time I got the truck turned around, the battery light came on…. Great… OK, no big deal. I knew the belt was on the fritz when I started this trip, so I came prepared with the tools. By this time it was about 8:45pm and I knew time was running out if I wanted to make it to the auto parts store before they closed. So I picked the closest parts store to the highway and headed that direction. I arrived at autozone around 9:00 (they close at 9:30) and I popped the hood. Much to my dismay, the alternator belt was intact. Awesome. Who’s Idea was it to drive this truck, knowing it needed maintenance, on a 6 hour round trip during the work week? Oh yeah… mine. Genius. Anyways, I head inside with my fingers crossed that they have an alternator. Of course they didn’t. The only alternator in town is 30 minutes in the other direction. There was no way I was going to make it there before it closed. No problem, I have a plan B. My truck is carbureted and doesn’t have too many things that run off of electricity, so I’ll try to make it home on batteries. So I bought 2 batteries, a new belt (just in case), some coolant, a new thermostat, gasket sealer, and a bottle of water and headed out the door. I started the truck and got back on the highway. Only 140 miles to go. I called my wife and told her that I was going to turn my phone off because of course I didn’t bring a phone charger. At this point, I was so mad at myself, that she just told me to get home as safely and quickly as possible and she would see me when I got there. The truck battery that was in the truck lasted all the way to the house! I was amazed. The headlights didn’t dim but just a little bit, but by the end of the trip the electronic ignition was acting funny and the horn was really weak. I rolled in at about 12:15am and went straight to bed. So the moral of this story is: Don’t do stupid things. I am looking forward to getting it running and preserving the great patina! I have since sold the disc set for 75 bucks, so ended up having 145 in it (not counting gas, of course). Anyways, here are the pictures I took last summer.

When I cut the end off my finger and had it sewed back on they taped the two adjoining fingers to it and splinted them. I took that rig off and taped a splint to the one finger the first day. They cast the hand at the follow up appointment a couple days later to stop me from using the hand, but did cast a ball socket into it so I could shift.

I had plaster cast made from my feet and got special custom orthotics. That and good boots for work. I have had to go back and get a cortisone shot like every 4 years in my heel compared what I was going through it was worth it.

I picked this jewel up yesterday at a John Deere dealer, it's a 224 case ,but it has a 16hp Onan on it, and someone put Power steering on it. It has a few leaks, but runs great. even has a joy stick.

I was going to change the Mercury vapor yard light to LED. So I picked up a 500w LED at Menards to have on hand when the yard light burned out. Upon closing up the addition onto the shop I needed a light in there until the fixtures were installed so I hung that 500w bulb in there. Needless to say it is going to stay there and one was installed in the old part also. The ceiling is 12' high so the light isn't in your eyes. They only use 100 watts and it's like working in the sunlight. They fit a standard socket and I love them.
  40. 2 points
Got mine at Lows and they were very cheap. But I didn't want to change the light fixtures. The LED bulbs wouldn't work with my ballasts so I changed all the ballasts and after adding it all up I had about $20.00 in each with 7 fixture $140.00 but they wanted $48.00 for each LED light with fixture or $336.00. That's a no brainer. I love the light in my garage now. I can see now

Sorry to see that John. At least the truck dodged a bullet. I just got back from a 8 hour white knuckle round trip to Penn State. Not much fun being sandwiched between the 18 wheelers in the 50 MPH winds. Made it back home safe though and no trees down that I could see in the dark. The power was off several times. I just heard ....a big rig has flipped on the Norman Wood bridge. Officials say it will remain closed until the winds lay enough to remove the truck. Probably Sunday. The bridge spans the Susquehanna River in southern Pa.

I bought the harbor freight lift for 299.00 not bad for lifting up the wheel horses. I'll have to custom some wider plates to the side for wider tractors. Otherwise very impressed with the quality of the lift... The 420 lse is on the lift in the pictures.

Ok this is what I have to offer and I did my best to perfect all the cuts and sew them into a usable look alike seat. LAWN RANGER AND 655,606,656,855 ,856,875,1055,1075,1056 SEATS. These wheel horse tractors should be the same seats as the lawn ranger. BUT PLEASE CHECK YOURS TO BE SURE BEFORE YOU ORDER. COVER W/OUT FOAM --------------- $80.00 COVER with FOAM -------------------$100.00 SHIPPING EXTRA .I will ship USPS or however you may want at your cost. And as cheap as possible. I make the original looking Black and White at these prices. The Black and white are made of marine grade vinyl with the 1 inch heat pleated white. I sew with v92 poly uv thread. All the stress seams are double sewed. FOAM: The foam is rebonded 2 inch for the seat and 1 inch for the back. I hand cut the foam to my frame as close to the metal as possible leaving enough overhang so the frame is covered. You may have to tweak the foam a little to your frame. (If you want to cut the foam yourself I'll send it uncut) I HAVE NOT GLUED THE SEAT TO FABRIC. If you want to glue the seat cover to the foam or frame that's up to you. I will not glue any covers to foam. I also will be offering the multi color covers like the reds and blacks. But these are sewn in pleats so there not as water repellent as the heat pleated. Each 1 inch pleat of course has needle holes so water will soak in over time . Not so with the white heat pleated. If you store yours indoor then it not a problem. (Just for your info.) Covers can be any combo of the colors I have on hand. About two weeks to make these multi color sears. $10.00 extra for multi colors because of all the sewing. I have tried to keep the price as low as the material and labor would allow me to. And I will try to offer these at the Big Show but the price may increase . Payment: PayPal , Check or money order. (If a check or money order there's a one week hold to clear.) PM me for total shipping cost

I popped on a "Bud" muffler. A bit louder but not that bad and I like the look better. Plus it blows the crud away from the hood. Took it for a ride around the block and it's running great!

About 2 feet total. It's the same stack I had on it at the show last year. Looks longer without the hood on. Here's a pic from last year. The nipples and elbow are all HD schedule 80 pipe. This motor is so much quieter I'm going to try a Bud Short stack and see how it performs.
